My sister needs surgery where they have to perform opening up the hymenal membrane...it is because she has something called ‘hematocolpos’. My parents doesn’t want to explain me what does it mean. Please, tell me it is my sister!

The surgical procedure, which can be described as a hymenotomy (opening up the hymenal membrane) is the treatment of an imperforate hymen. It is a surgical urgency when it presents in an adolescent with hematometra and hematocolpos but the procedure should not be performed on an emergency basis without appropriate preoperative evaluation. A concurrent laparoscopy also is suggested in a young woman presenting with hematocolpos. I hope you’d understand this and your sister will be ok.
