Hi.I have a question about SR metformin and wonder if anyone has any experience of taking them? I have been taking regular metformin for the last 6 months but have had continuous stomach upsets to the point where I did not feel I could leave the house for fear of soiling myself. My doctor has now put me on metformin SR and says that i should get on better with them. has anybody else switched to SR, and did they get on better with them?

metformin SR is a slow release medication which releases metformin slowly and continuously over a period of hours. It is usually taken once or twice a day with meals, and it is important not to chew or crush the tablets as this can effect the speed why which they are released in the body. Do not be alarmed if you see traces of the shell of the metformin SR in your faeces, as it is not easily digestible, and this can sometimes alarm people. Metformin SR is the same medication as metformin the only difference is that it is released slowly into the body, helping to keep your blood sugar levels steady. Some people find they have less side effects with this medication rather than standard metformin, and this may certainly help with the stomach upsets that you have been getting. Hopefully you will find that this medication is much better suited to you.
