Hi I'm Riley posting on Lucy's account because I have nowhere else to go to ask.

So I haven't had my period since April or May, and it is now end of August. I am NOT pregnant because I haven't had sex and I don't have any symptoms of anything else it might be. Me and a friend put it down to stress but now I haven't been stressed since the end of July which is 4 weeks ago. What could it be?? Of course I don't mind not having a period, it's great, but I don't want it to be gone forever. I'm only young and still want kids in future!

Hi Riley

How did you manage to use Lucy's account?

"I am NOT pregnant because I haven't had sex" But have you had any other sexual activity? Sperm can swim into your vagina from just outside, or be introduced manually.

"I don't have any symptoms of anything else it might be", but you don't say what symptoms you were lacking and what you had thout it might be.

There are several reasons you might have stopped having periods apart from pregnancy.

  1. Some types of contraception can also cause you to temporarily stop having periods. You say you haven't had sex, but you don't say whether you are taking contraception.
  2. Absent periods after starting (secondary amenorrhoea) can sometimes be a sign of an underlying medical condition, such as:
    • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – Can mean you do not regularly ovulate.
    • Hypothalamic Amenorrhoea – The part of the brain that regulates your menstrual cycle stops working properly. This is thought to be triggered by excessive exercise and excessive weight loss as well as stress
    • Hyperprolactinaemia – Abnormally high levels of a hormone called prolactin are in yourblood

Secondary amenorrhoea, is relatively common, and is estimated to affect around 1 in 25 women at some point in their lives. It is more common in teenage girls and younger women, and seems to be much more common in groups like professional athletes, dancers and gymnasts.

Fortunately this can often be treated, and sometimes periods return on their own after a period of time, so I suggest you visit your doctor and get a professional opinion.

Hi.

I got her log in details off her laptop.

No, no sexual activity what so ever and I'm not taking any contraceptives.
Do any of those things you listed have any particular symptoms? Because I feel fine. I'm just starting to worry..
I'm not a professional athlete, dancer or gymnast though.

Hi Riley

So, how is Lucy now?

The particular symptoms are often only menstrual problems like Amenorrhoea (no periods), so I think it is best to visit your doctor and get a professional opinion.
