Hi all, new member here.

Im not sure if my problem had been posted before or not. There are something quite similar but not quite.

So here goes,

Im a 28 year old woman who just started taking birth control (microgynon). Never before in my life.

I had 4 misscariages.

Im currently in a steady relationship with my BF. We are sexually active.

I started taking BC on Oct 9 2009 where I just ended my period on the 7th, but silly me, I started taking it from the yellow side oppose

to the blue side. Now Im already on the sugar pill. Ive taken 16 real pills prior to that.

We have sex about twice a week but repeated (about twice/thrice per sex) And he always wore a condom.

If Im not mistaken I had sex on the 10th 11th 14th 17th 19th 20th 23rd 27th of this month.

I have a 30 day menstruation period. Usually on the 3rd or 4th of every month.

Since I started taking BC, I noticed that Im getting slightly dizzy with light to sometime heavy cramping under my belly (usually right

after taking it). I also gained weight and mood swings.

I never missed a pill. Always at the same time (give or take 5 minutes) even though I realized from this site that it

is a usual symptoms for first timers, but yesterday when we about to have sex, my BF noticed that I had this brown spotting and

wiped it with a tissue (I had this before, also after taking the pill, never before that), and we decided to have sex anyway, but when

my BF pulled out his penis and came, there was this ooze of brown liquid coming out of my vagina and it was quite a lot. And truth be

told, I panicked like crazy, but didnt want my BF to know.

It still coming out the following night and quite thick. I had to change tampons twice. It slowed down this morning but there;s still

traces left.

My questions are:

1. Is that normal?

2. What is that?

3. Am I showing early sign of pregnancy? I suppose to due on the 3rd of next month (my period)

Please ask me any question that you might feel pertinent.

I will be monitoring this post.

Any reply, comment, suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot..

Hi Othersides,

I may have some suggestions and/or answers for you,

First, it is not normal to have any kind of discharge, especially one that has changed colors. It is a possible sign that you may have a bacterial infection called vaginosis. It's nothing that serious and can be fixed with antibiotics, but you need to visit with your gyn to have an exam to see if that's the problem. Once your gyn gets the tesy result back from the lab, they'll let you know if that's it. I don't believe that it's a sign of pregnancy, usually that would be a red discharge as you are familiar with if you've already had miscarriages. There's also the possibility of peremenopause, but at your age, I doubt if that is your problem. Again, I believe you need to have a visit with your gyn. That's the only one who can diagnose your problem.

I'm not familiar with the birth control med you are taking but have you checked into the side effects of it? Is the spotting a possible side effect or did your gyn tell you that you may experience this from the med?

Some research online that may help answer some of your questions is located at . There's a search engine there and you just have to type in your symtoms,(like bacterial vaginosis or vaginal discharge) and it will take you right to the page of info. I found that website to be very useful in many ways with many topics.

Hope this has helped you! Good Luck!! :)

Not to diagree with Tavannatattoo...but I have some thoughts of my own..although his/her thoughts are very valid, and I am definitely not a medical expert in any way, shape, or form :-)

What I am thinking is that you are starting your period. Although you had a 30 day cycle previously, this can very well change when you get on b-control, and it should change. It should bring you on to a 28 day cycle, although its not a typical cycle because you will not be ovulating. B-control pills can make your period much lighter because you are only shedding the uterus lining, not the egg. If you started your "placebo" or as you call them "sugar pills" a couple days before this brown discharge, then it could be very likely that this is just your period and your cycles will now be shorter. You should always start your period a couple days after starting the placebo because by the next Sunday (or whatever day you started your pills), you would be ready to start a new pack.

B-control can be very confusing the first time you start. I would definitely look into your specifc type and find out what the side effects are, etc.

Good luck. Hope you figure it out :-)

@ Tavannatattoo: Thank you so much for replying, so it could be an infection? Hmm, Im not an American, and as you can imagine, Im 28 and JUST started taking BC should indicate that Im a bit of a prude :-P , not sex wise though. I know I should go to the obgyn, but I still have to push my way through it I suppose. But I will make an appointment. Again, thank you so much..

@ babyblues1222: Hi. Yes, it is confusing. I know it should change, but it moves it up a week. Like I said in my previous post is that normal? The blood (I assume) is quite thick, just like a normal period. But didnt hurt as much (lot less, which is a good thing). But the thickness of the blood concerns me. Should I be? I already on my sixth tampon today. And its only been (almost) two days of "period".
Again, I cant thank you enough. And Im sorry to both of you if my English is not so good. Or weird..

Hi all, I'm new here but wondering if anyone could help me at all??

Ok so basically I had a period on the 26th September, which was normal and lasted for 5 days, as they usually do (and may I point out that my periods are like clock work, never late, never early, always bang on time!). I then went away with my b/f for my bithday on the weekend of the 9th October, which according to my cycle is the weekend I should have been ovulating. We are not ttc at all, however we did have unprotected sex on the saturday (10th Oct) evening/ early hours of sunday (11th Oct) morning, and also when we got back. We arrived back on sunday evening and I went and got the morning after pill on the tuesday 13th Oct, where the nurse told me that as I hadn't taken it immediately the chances of it working were decreased. So my next period was due the 24th Oct, however it arrived early, and it was not a normal period at all. (WARNING TMI) It was thick, dark brown in colour and mucus/stringy in texture. It also wasn't a constant flow, it was there one day and gone the next and there again, and it has now reduced to just a faint pink smear when I wipe. I have taken one clearblue hpt which was negative, however I'm not sure whether to believe it or not. I have another one which I will take in a few days time, but please any advice offered would be extremely appreciated as I am very confused.

p.s I have had what could be considered as 'symptoms', such as extremely painful lower back, sore breasts and abdominal pain, all of which (apart from the back pain) seem to have calmed down for now. Oh and I think I am urinating a little more, but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me!

Hi Othersides...

It could very well move up a week if your body is adjusting to the pill. Also, like I said, you should always start your period 2-3 days after you start the placebo or "sugar" pills. Taking those keeps your cycle regular. Also, it will hurt less now. When I am on b-control, my cramps are far more easy to handle then when I am not on the pill. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would go another month on your pill and see what happens then. If you are still concerned, make an appt with your OB/GYN. Good luck!
P.S. Your English is not bad at all!! I work with people all over the world, and have seen much worse XD

Del87...

I am not familiar with the 'morning after pill'. I have friends who have taken it. Possibly you getting your period, or what seemed like your period, early could be contributed to that. You should maybe google the side effects of that pill and see if your symptoms are realted. I would not worry that you are pregnant. If you were, you would not have gotten thick mucousy brown blood. Implantation bleeding is much lighter, hardly noticeable. And since you have taken a pregnancy test, after the bleeding, and it was negative, you more than likely are not prego. That is all I know, but if I were you, I would definitely look at the side effects of the morning after pill. Good Luck!!

Hi babybluess1222, I think so too. But aside from it being moved a couple days early, does it also speed up the period days as well?
I think Im done now, now its only just 3 days, instead of my usual 4-5 days (fifth being the "cleansing" day).
Yes, it does hurt less, a lot less. Thats one of the reason I wasnt so sure that it was my period.
I think Im gonna switch b control pill though, a friend of mine recommended Mercilon, have you heard of it? It got less dosage than what Im taking now. So, I hope it'll work out even better.

Thank you. Thank you so much for taking your time and write me this.

Yes, it will shorten your period too. On the pill my period is only 2-3 days, but off I have a 4-5 day one that is alot heavier and more painful. Maybe switching is good, but remember that whatever pill you take, it will take some time for your body to adjust. I've never heard of the one you name...I have basically been on ortho-tricyclen forever and it works for me. I hope you can find the one that works for you. Good luck! I was glad to be of help to you :-D

I had no idea that something like that would shorten your period. Can you tell me which one you used to be on before you switched over? WOuld you recommend Orth-Tricyclen best?

Yea, when you are on b-control, you do not ovulate, so there is not as much for your body to "dispose" of, that is the reason they are typically shorter and less painful. I have always been on ortho-tricyclen and it has worked for me so far. I would say 10 years on and off, but mostly on. Its the cheapest too :-)

Hi there, I'm glad to hear that it's been working for you! You have never been on any other birth control at all? I have heard some bad things about Yaz/Yasmin and wanted to get your opinion on it. What do you think?

Just a one small question. What is the main difference between Yaz and Yasmin? I've just heard that the main difference is the intensity. Yasmin is more stronger than Yaz. Is this right?

So i am currently having the same problem and it is the first time i have ever had this happen. I'm 29 years old, not on birth control and have 4 kids so ive seen a little bit of everything. This however started about the time i should start my period but it is nasty. THICK dark brown (thicker than snot) and sometimes you can see blood mixed in with it. I wont use a tampon because it is so thick. It has been going on for 2 weeks!!!! It is driving me insane but i cant bring myself to go to the gyn until it clears up. i wouldnt want anyone to have to see this much less touch it.
