Hello. I'm 45 year old female and about four years ago I was diagnosed with one uterine cancer which has spread on my ovaries and left kidney. Luckily, operation came on time and my life was saved although I lost my left kidney, uterus and both ovaries.
About a month ago I was diagnosed with one condition called polycystic kidney and my doctor told me that my only option is kidney transplantation. Supposedly, operation could be done in two weeks from now and all this time I should drink some strong drug called Imuran, but a friend of mine told me that this drug has many possible side effects including hair loss. Please tell me this isn’t true?

Hi. I know some facts about this drug because my mother had also to drink it before and after her kidney transplantation.
The most important fact you should know about this drug is that it is an immunosuppressive medicine and that it prevents kidney rejection by decreasing the body's normal immune response.
Body reacts on foreign organ like on any other invasive agent and therefore, it fights against it.
Like all other drugs, Imuran has some possible side effects such as changes in hair color and texture along with hair loss and of course- increased risk of infection. But to be honest with you- I still believe that this is far too small price to pay for getting your life in normal back again.
