Hi, good people. My grandmother is on chemotherapy. I think that she is on drug called cytarabin. Lately she has been experiencing some intestinal bleeding, so I would like to know if this could be a side effect of this chemotherapy. I am concerned, so I was hoping to find out something here.

Hi to you too. You haven’t mentioned which type of cancer your grandmother has. However, cytarabine is a cytotoxic drug with many side effects. It can cause gastrointestinal ulceration. As a result, intestinal bleeding can be expected. This drug also lowers the number of blood platelets. They are very important for blood clotting. In the case when their number is decreased, there is higher tendency for bleeding. However, your grandmother should consult her doctor. Bye!
