The same thing happened to me! I previously used Nuva Ring, had no complications, then started up again... HORRIBLE acne, large, painful cysts, and of course, takes a toll on self esteem. I think I will be going off this soon.

I blamed this new hideous acne I have on my face, neck and chest on everything else until I realized the real culprit. I thought it was my new shampoo, not showering early enough after working out, eating too much sugar, my hair touching my face etc etc.  But really it is the NUVARING! Horrible cystic acne on my neck and chest that is painful and small breakouts all over my face. Ugh.  I took out the nuva ring.

Add me to the list.

I am 35yo, going on 15. I have HORRIBLE cystic acne on my chin since I went back on Nuvaring after a 3 months break. Previously I've been using it for 13 months without real problems but 1 normal pimple on my chin when I was taking it off to get my periods. But since I started using it again IT'S HORRIBLE. I have huge and very painful pimples that won't come out, I have to use a needle to help them cuz they are so painful I can't stand keeping them on my face for 2-3 weeks before they finally tone down by themselves. Last month I got one on the tip of my nose, it was horrible, I had to ask a cosmetic surgeon to take care of it, I couldn't stand glasses on my face; it was THIS painful. My nose was 2x its size, my boyfriend couldn't believe it.

These pimples are often on the same spots and come back months after months. It's been 4 months since I got back on Nuvaring and my skin is getting worse every week. I just took the Nuvaring out after 2 1/2 weeks in after getting 2 huge cystic pimples in the same week, they take half of my chin and are getting bigger every day! It's probably not good to take the ring out this early but I can't stand it anymore. My skin usually clears out when I'm having my periods aka when the ring isn't in!! I'm never going back on this sh** again and I wish my skin will clear out asap and without any scars!

I am 26, and since starting nuvaring, have broken out in painful acne on my neck, jawline and back. They are very large, cystic-like bumps which are swollen and inflamed.

The upside to nuvaring is you only have to remember once a month, and also my boobs have gotten bigger which Im quite thrilled about.

Now I can't decide, do i deal with the acne, or then lose my fuller chest?

Has anyone found a skin cleasner or face regime that helps reduce the acne? Are there any solutions besides stopping the birth control?

I am over the ring! Im 23, never used any birth control and i haven't had acne since i was 12. I started nuvaring 2 1/2 weeks ago and my face is jacked. My nose of all places and my forehead is breaking out. I'm hungry all the time. I even think my emotions are a bit wack. Im not going to wait for the 3 weeks, not worth it

Because I have done so much consumer research on birth control options over the past few years, I felt I had to contribute my story for other readers.  I used NuvaRing very briefly (less than 5 months) back in 2009.  I initially stopped using it because my partner and I had broken up, but I began developing cystic acne around the same time.  I, like many other contributors, had never had skin problems in the past beyond one or two small pimples during my period.  The acne that flared up upon quitting NuvaRing (at 25 years old) covered my jawline with large, painful cysts.  I lived with it for only a few months before I finally couldn't handle the embarrassment anymore and went to a dermatologist for the first time ever.  Though she couldn't claim it was the exact cause, she was the first to tell me that NuvaRing is often pointed to as the cause of cystic acne in its users.  She put me on an aggressive dosage of Spironolactone (came close to having to take Accutane), and I am still on it today...over 2 years later! I am so sorry to everyone else on here who has suffered similar side effects, but I am thankful for you in the realization that I am not alone.

I totally know what you are going through! Sounds like my same story. It has been 4 years now and I still break out. I am not on birth control and I know that the N.Ring totally messed up my hormones!! Keep track of your menstrual cycle. I usually break out right when I ovulate and then it clears up after I start bleeding. So..I get 1 1/2 weeks of clearish skin and then I break out. Has anyone tried any hormonal replacements? I have been usuing Maca Root and Yellow Dock. These are both herbs that seem to help a bit.

So glad im not alone in all this! i had perfectly clear skin and then started dating my boyfriend and wanted to get on a bc. i too started the nuvaring about 4 months ago and by my second month i had a few cystic pimples, the ones that take weeks to go away!By the end of the second month i had the worst cystic acne all over my cheeks and chin..i felt so depressed over it. i knew that the nuvaring at this point was causing my hormones to go haywire and making me break out.  i didnt even hesitate, i took that thing out and tossed it in the trash. reading the responces here now i know for sure nuvaring was the culprit. i even tried going on ortho lo per my doc and that didnt do anything. the ortho lo actually started giving me signs of blood clotting in my legs, headaches and causing a bit of depression. (depression may have been the stress of all of it) i decided to cut myself off all bc for now. i can use condoms for all i care..im not gonna have my body wacked out from all these added hormones. and not to be a downer but ive been off of bc for almost two months now and im still battling my acne!! i heard that it could take 3-6months for hormones to start regulating normally again...guess ill just wait it out and continue to battle it. good luck to all of you and lets just hope this is all a short phase.

Okay seriously I was on nuva ring 2 years ago and it never had any effect on my skin I've ALWAYS had perfect skin. 2 weeks ago I decided to go back on the ring and I have the worst breakout on my cheek and chin. I thought I wa going to have to go to the doctor for a skin disease. I took out the ring last night and now I'm working in getting my face back. -__-

I have recently noticed this too, at first I thought it may be my Adderall. But now that I'm reading these posts, and the breakouts began within days of using the NuvaRing its HORRIBLE I have oily skin but controllable acne and the NuvaRing is drying my facial skin out SOOO BAD!! I'm just going to take it out today, now that I'm sure this the reason for my breakouts. And they don't clear up either.

I'm a girl from Holland and i used the nuvaring for 2 weeks. Because i had a lot of side effects on the pill (the yasmin) i decided to try the nuvaring because it containes a lot less of hormones than the pill. But still i think it's horrible, i was so emotional, depressed and while my skin is normally ok, it is totally bad and painful now. I stopped 4 days ago and i hope my skin will get back to normal after my period is over.

I was on NuvaRing for a pretty long time and remember having no issues.  I usually have pretty clear skin and I remember after starting NuvaRing I did have some acne but it cleared once I had adjusted. I then went off NuvaRing for several months and just now started back on it again. Just days later I am having the worst breakouts of my life so I'm very worried. I hope that it goes away and I hope that I don't notice weight gain like some of the other girls who left comments. NuvaRing is really the only option for me since the pills make me horribly sick, the shot causes intense weight gain, the patch is super annoying, spermicide burns and irritates my skin, condoms suck and I don't trust a diaphram.
