My sister has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This was all very hard for her and she is very upset and agitated because of that diagnose. She is in hospital now and doctor recommended a combination of two therapies: surgery and radiotherapy. I am very worried about her mental state. Doctor prescribed her with metaclopramide. Is that drug a sedative?

Metaclopramide blocks D2 receptors in the brain and acts as an anti mimetic. It increases the tonus of esophageal muscles, speeds up the emptying process in stomach and intestinal movements. It is used with all sorts of nausea and vomiting, and even has a mild sedative effect, but only as a side effect and not a primary function.
