I fell and hurt my back and get shooting pain down my leg as well. I just started physical therapy and was wondering if 3 loratab a day is too much. The pain is so severe that I can't function until the loratab is in my system.

Hi Mel,
I can tell you that nikols is correct. I also hurt my back, while working as a server at a restaurant. I was given Vicodin (Hydrocodone) which is the same as Lortab. I was diagnosed with a slipped disc at L5-S1. Which I ended up having 3 surgeries 1994,99,2008. As a result of my first doctor having me on the Vicodin for so long I became addicted, and as nikols pointed out you become tolerant and need a much bigger dose, which is what happened to me, not to mention that in the late 80's there were no warnings from the doctor or the pharmaceutical companies about how addictive this type a medication can be, it's just been the last 5 to 10 yrs that they started putting information on your paperwork at the pharmacy. So by the time I had graduated to Methadone, for pain I had been taking 30 to 60 Lortabs a day. After my last surgery in 2008 I started seeing a pain doctor she also prescribed Methadone as well as Oxycodone 30's and Valium. Which is a lethal combination when you really think about it. I never thought in a million yrs that I would be an addict/junkie but that had been my life for over 24 yrs. April 9Th 2011, I had a yr sober. Just be really careful Mel, if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. It's a living "HELL" trying to get off opiates the withdraws are brutal and debilitating. Which is what keeps a lot of ppl on them. I can also tell you I don't know how many times I asked one of my doctors for help and the answer was always the same I'm not licensed to do, that well if I have anything to say about it, if there going to write for this "c**p" then there going to learn how to help ppl get off of it when they tell them that they have a problem. Just be careful Mel.
