My brother hurt his back while skiing. He has been diagnosed disc hernia. Besides the back pain he started having severe left leg pain. He is about to have a microdiskectomy c6-7. What exactly is it?

Microdiskectomy is a spine surgery where the surgeon removes the fragments of disc material that have protruded into the spinal canal.
