Hello to all the ladies today and in the future who may stumble upon this post in their desperation to get answers or comfort in anomalies that are happening to them.

Let me start by saying I have had some experience with MAP, I have taken three in total 2x EllaOne and 1x Levonelle 1500. The first two EC I took I had a great experience with, it may have delayed my period by a week but in no way did it effect my cycles in the following months.

However, I have recently taken EllaOne again and to put it simply, it has been hell. I have had a lot of stress and worry over the possibility of pregnancy and researching every single thing, which ultimately stressed me out even more.

So on the 25th of September as usual I had a 5 day period. On October 1st, which was my 7th day of my normal 29/30 day cycle, I had let's say a bad experience (non-consensual) intercourse with a guy (this of course is another story but anyway). He apparently was taking medication to reduce sperm count, however I didn't believe him because well anyone can say they have the pill but whether they actually take it is another story.

He used a condom as well, once he had finished he didn't withdraw properly and the condom got stuck inside me. So immediately I panicked and left his house and went home. Ashamed and really upset I decided to go out an buy EC the next day after work. It was about 22hours after the incident that I took the pill and like always I experienced symptoms such as faintness and nausea. I usually nap it off and feel fine the next day.

SO after this I continued on with my life feeling a little relieved. That was until on the 8th of October I experienced some bleeding. This started brown and turned into heavy bleeding, I was very distressed as I have never had this happen when taking the pill before and also because I wasn't due for another 2 and a half weeks for my period. However, upon research I found out that this is actually very common, and that the large dose of hormones causes the uterine to shed its lining (i could be wrong here?) to prevent implantation. I went to a gyn just in case who told me 7 days is uncommon normally 2-3 days, but she said yeah its normal to bleed after taking it.

Anyway so I marked the MAP induced bleeding as a period and my next projected period (I use an app) said I was due on the 30 of October, I got my period on the 31st.

I have to say that this period on the 31st started out light and brown and eventually turned heavy. It lasted 4 days (my normal menstruation is around 4-5days) so I thought this was a great sign having a normalish period around the time it was projected.

So on the 22nd of November I got another period this one was the worst of all. It started out much like the last one, really light and then turned extremely heavy. The main difference was that it lasted for 13 long days! All other people I saw on forums said they had long menstruation usually a week after taking the pill. It also freaked me out because I though it had stopped on the 1st of December only to have light pink bleeding for 2 days and then finishing with brown blood on the 4th.

I researched this and psyched myself out thinking, "c**p, it's implantation or pregnancy spotting" but I realised that there were also other causes such as ovulation spotting which can be induced by recently taking birth control (which I believe could include EC). Today (5th of December) I took a pregnancy test thinking this would ease my mind because by now I'd be like 7-8 weeks pregnant, and it was negative but yeah silly me researched all about how people can return negative results and be like 11 weeks pregnant.

However, I believe I'm not pregnant because of the heavy bleeding (I know you can get lighter periods during pregnancy) and because I haven't had any other symptoms besides occasional nausea (which could be due to the recent heat wave in my country).

Anyway I'd like to finish off by saying that taking the MAP whichever one it may be can be either a dream or a living nightmare. I'm not here to say don't take it or do, I mean it's a great thing to have in true emergencies or such situations where it wasn't consensual. But I want all the ladies or partners who may be interested in looking into symptoms or stories because they are concerned for their gf or wife, that taking this pill can truly mess up your cycle, and can cause a lot of worry and stress which can lead to other things and create even more stress! Please know that if you take the pill and don't get a period within I think 1-2 weeks you need to do a test. Also know that this pill can cause changes to your cycle like it did to mine I mean it not only made mine heavier but also can cause a period for 13 blooming days.

I will keep updating if you guys want me to and I am also very happy to answer questions, because I know how stressful and worrying it can be when you think you may or may not be pregnant!

Much love and hugs going out to those who are stressed xx
