I have the same problem. Feels like someone heated up a knife blade and jammed it into my back and left it there. The pain is in between my shoulder blade and spine. I have to see my surgeon this month. Been doing therapy and that helps some.

I've had c5, and c6 cervical discectomy and fusion in May,2014, in which immediately following surgery there was and still is chronic pain in right shoulder and arm. Worse pain than before surgery. I had the bad discs for about 20 years. Below the bad discs and between the shoulder blades I suffer from facet joint syndrome, (arthritis) from the disease process of the bad discs which also causes chronic pain. I'm looking for second opinions about nerve damage that I have 1 Dr denying. This is absolutely ridiculous. I can't continue to live like this. I've been living with chronic pain over 20 years. Hello ....would you be able to pass along the contact information for the surgeon who told you that the shoulder blade pain was a clear indication the fusion did not work? I am dealing with the same situation. Had the acdf in August and have severe pain in that area every day. My surgeon is making it seem as if the pain is not related to the surgery. Im at a loss and need help. Thank you!

I had surgery c5-c6-c7 fusion 1/12/15.  Early on post op I complained about shoulder blade spasms and was given meds.  But here I am back at work and trying to get off the oxycodone.  I am using the pain meds for the shoulder blade pain, it is so nagging.I am not the same person with this pain. No pain in the surgery area at all.  I am really thankful for this site. I was wondering if I am sleeping wrong or WHAT!?! I am wondering if there is exercises. (I have had no PT after surgery and have been told that the fusion is healing perfectly) So what's this band of pain under and through my shoulder blades?

Michaeil420 - How are you doing? What kind of therapy are you doing? I totally relate to your post at 8 weeks post op. I'm worried because the surgery itself seems to be none of the problem and healing is great. I can't understand the shoulder blade pain. Is it because of the metal brace? The aggravation of surgery? I don't get to see the surgeon for another 6 weeks. I'm frustrated with doing nothing.

I had ACDF in December . Pain in my neck and shoulders is unfreaking bearable . I went to primary dr ad ask for an MRI . She sent me back to neuro surgeon who only ordered a oblique neck X-ray with flexion and extension . It showed normal ( I really find it hard to believe ) I am in pain most of the time. Don't really know what test to ask for or what!

I am 4 weeks out from A acdf and yes it is common Becouse your neck muscles gave been pulled to make room for disk. You must walk and let your arms go bac and forth. My Nero sugeon is fab. I love him he said 6 mo. For it to heal and stretch out . It hurts a lot but I can do it as long as it is getting better. Also I never had hardly any arm or neck pain but my legs hurt and burned all the time before not now.

You can have your fauset joints fixed . I am 4 weeks out of a acdf and I had extreme cervical problem from a fall in2012. My legs was really the problem so it took a while to find it. One small bump or swift movement and I would have been paralyzed fir life. I have pain but walk every morn and swing my arms and have swallowing issues and don't sleep well yet but I have faith and in my Dr. What a man so wonderful to me . All this has to stretch out to make room for the new implant and plate so don't give up. It can take a year to fix nerves and you can have damage and after 3 yeRs I just don't know but am willing to do the work to try. I am 58 years old and a female I have been very active with exercise and work . I am now told no more work for me . I am ok with that but want to lead a good life and be able to take care of my home. I am determined to do just that.

Only after I started moving my head up and down did I have the shoulder pain in between I believe it will go away . I saw mt dr. If you don't stretch it after 4 weeks I mean start slow it won't stretch and you will have pain. I only go up and down 3 times in the morn. And I walk and swing my arms yes it hurts but got to do it . I had 3 4 5 done I had severe spinal stenosis in it and my spinal cord was severely compressed. I will not be working any more but that's ok I will be able to swim and I am a long distance swinmmer and take care of my house and like without pain. I trust my Dr. He is fab. Don't stop stretching those muscles or it will allways hurt but be carful not to over do it. Thanks fie reading this post

I am wondering if anyone has had mid back pain relief after c5 & c 6 surgery as I was mistakenly diagnosed with a frozen shoulder too, had a poor PT who did not build a strong foundation from strengthening the neck/ back . I never experienced T problems in my life-- just my neck - which " goes out" twice a year since 2009. Now i am in excruciating pain since 9/11/14, and cant work. Sick leave runs out in 5/16. On major pain meds, and was dropped from a chiro table and head locked on June 11/14. After reviewing the posts, i am hesitant about surgery. I am working with a better PT group now but all of the exercises cause my middle back and neck to hurt. Even texting is difficult. Please offer any advice. Hospital for pain twice this year.

Hi my name is Tracey. Im having same symptoms. I had my acdf surgery c6-c7 on 12th sept 2015 so just less than two weeks ago. Being honest I cant tell if surgery worked as of yet as im in horrible pain so not sure if its just due to the severe muscle spasms down back of neck and across shoulder blades and chest pain is getting worse. Been told it maybe because of how I was positioned for the surgery. Still have the pain down my left arm too and my right leg has went numb a couple of times since surgery. All my gp will give me is co-codamol and they dont help at all. One day at a time and little steps. Good luck to you all and I wish you all well for future x
