What is the gene responsible for development of Pelizeaus-Merzbacher disease? Can it be detected by amniocentesis? Are miscarriages common in pregnancies associated with pmd? I would like to hear more about this if you have information. Thank you in advance.

Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease is inherited as an x linked recessive trait. Mothers are carriers of mutation and males are affected. Miscarriages are common in foetuses with genetic abnormalities. I think that this mutation should be detectable by amniocentesis, when karyogram in made. The problem is with synthesis of myelin protein called proteolipid protein. This condition harms whole nervous system in organism.
