I know this is old but I thought maybe I could help out someone else in a similar situation. I recently took plan B about a month after stopping regular birth control. I got the first period after taking plan b and then did not have a normal period for over 3 months. During that time I took a ton of pregnancy tests all of them were negative. I don't know if this is "normal" or not but it seems like it happens more often than the drug company lets on. Just thought I'd share my experience since I know a lot of these types of forums don't have much info about what ended up happening.

hopefully this is helpfull, im always taking plan B pills, i beleive that as long as a girl takes the pill imediately after unprotected sex theres nothing to worry about. everytime i take them im always either getting my period sooner or it takes a long time, the pill messes a womens menstrual cycle, its also helpfull to urinate right after having sexual intercourse. ive been taking the pill for five years and i haved not came out pregnant, I already have kids and trying my best not to have more.

I thought I'd post here since I was going through these blogs a couple of months ago trying to find some explanation. I had a broken condom incident in July and took Plan B. Got my period. Then again at the beginning of August. Took Plan B again knowing that it i not recommended to take it too often but needing to do so. I got my period a week and something later, normal. Since I broke up with the person I was with, I didn't have sex after that. I missed one period, took a couple of pregnancy tests just in case. Negative. Missed a second period. Negative. Went to the doctor and he said it could be caused by stress after running another preg test. Missed a third period but basically stopped worrying about it. Two weeks after missing my 3rd period I got it.

So my advice if you are on this situation. Take a test, go to your doctor and make sure you are not pregnant. Then, when that is confirmed, stop worrying about it and be careful if you are having sex during this time. But don't over-worry, I know it can be horrible to think about all the issues involved in an unwanted pregnancy, but it is always better to know early in any case, and not be ashamed to go to a doctor.

Good luck to all of you.

Okay here's the deal. Plan B is more effective the sooner you take it as I'm sure most of you know. So if you take it within 12 hours of having unprotected sex then it is above 90% effective. The effectiveness decreases the longer you wait etc. The hormones in plan B instigates a period due to it's "cleansing process". It can either make it come sooner then usual or later then usual. It depends on several factors... Most women that get their period after taking the plan b are in the clear and shouldn't worry. HOWEVER it is possible to be pregnant after having your period. The chances are super slim to none but if your cycle is out of wack I encourage you to take a pregnancy test to be sure. The Pill is a concentrated form of chemicals that you are putting into your body! Your body is not use to these foreign chemicals and becomes shocked! That is why some women's periods take longer to arrive etc. If taken within 72 hours plan B is highly effective. I wouldn't worry so much, just be more cautious and use an effective form of birth control like the pill or shot.

You're not supposed to take it more than once in a 6 month time frame. This was a very childish and ill informed decision. Maybe you should refrain from having sex until you can properly take care of your body.

thanks for the post above. My period is running on the almost 2 weeks late, and several times in the last month i thought i was about to start. i felt nausous, stomach/back pain, breast tenderness, etc. and nothing, quite confusing. I took the pill within the 3 day limit but that day had unprotected sex thinking enjoy it while we can... (anyways). and then i read on the site that you could have tubal pregancy that causes abdominal pain.. etc. that really scared me. I took a test a few days after i was late and negative. I havnt had any spotting or anything close to the look of a period. so i will wait a few more days and then possible take another test or call my doctor just to be sure.

and the second thing that always worries me, is what if someone was pregnant already and took the pill. seems it would cause some damage to that fetus/egg. but they say (doctors and website) that it hasnt been provent to cause damage yet? hmm

well good luck to all the ladies. for the most part i think it does cause a cycle change so we shouldnt worry quite yet. but who am i kidding a baby could change everything...so its hard not to.

So, I had sex on August 2nd, and the condom broke. About an hour later, I took the plan b pill, and then the second one as the directions stated. I got my period about a week later, and then another in September and another in October. November, however, is a different story. I haven't had my period since mid October, and I am concerned that either a) the plan b has screwed up my system more than I thought or b) I'm pregnant and the others were flukes. Do any of you have some words of wisdom?

I had something similar happen...only now I'm a little worried.

I had sex with my (now EX-boyfriend) Christmas Eve. The condom broke. I took Plan B about 30 hours after it happened because no drug stores were open around Christmas. Anyway, I took it and felt like CRUD for the next week and a half. I ended up getting my period about a week late (sometime around the middle of January). But when I got it, I GOT it. I mean, it was like a crime scene down there! I was so excited that I wasn't pregnant and the normalcy of my period helped to reinforce the fact that I wasn't.

However, now it's going on the 19th of February and I don't even have any signs of getting my period again. I'm seriously starting to worry about whether there's still a chance I could be pregnant. I've talked to a few people who know of cases where people were still pregnant after they've had a period or two. I'm too scared to take a pregnancy test and I worry that I might just be overreacting.

Anyone else have this issue?
