My son is six and has really bad asthma. Normally he takes salbutamol and becotide, but when he gets really bad he also has to take prednisone for short periods of time. Now, the doctor says I have nothing to be concerned about, but I am still worried about the longer-term side effects of the use of steroids in children. Does anyone know anything about this subject?

I know that the use of prednisone can lead to growth delays in children, but I do not know about the other medication you mentioned. Are those also steroids? What I would do in your case is to look up the medications individually, and look for long term side effects in children. You can also get a second opinion from another doctor if you are not sure about what your own doctor is recommending.
