Hello. I am 27 year-old female and I have had two miscarriages so far. These were our first attempts to have a baby, and both of them failed. My doctor signed me up for a procedure called sonohysterogram and I would like to know more about it. Does it hurt, how long does it last and how it looks like? Thank you in advance!

Hey, don’t worry, it is no big deal. I had sonohysterogram performed when I was suffering from abnormal bleeding. It takes about 10 minutes and it looks like this: It is performed in our ultrasound room and combines transvaginal ultrasound with instillation of a normal saline solution into the uterine cavity. A small catheter will be placed through your vagina into the uterus, but first the catheter is connected to the container of saline solution. This saline solution allows careful examination of the uterine structures and lining while using the transvaginal ultrasound probe. A picture of the uterus then appears on the ultrasound monitor so the physician can evaluate the condition of the uterus. As you can see, no big deal. Anyway, I hope everything will turn out just fine for you.
