I am 25 years old and my husband and i have been trying to a baby since December of last year.
My periods have always been predictable. Ever since having my first child they are usually heavy. So i have cramps the first day, then my period starts and it is heavy until about the 5th day where it begins to lighten up and I am usually done about the 7th day.
On March 29th I started what i supposed was my period. only it was very much different. It was a light flow...and then nothing.. I was usually going through 3-5 super tampons a day on my period i was now not even filling one. Then all of a sudden it would get heavy, but the heavy flow wouldn't even last a day before it was back to light ot nothing at all. This lasted 2 weeks and then stopped.
I just now started what I suppose to be my period for this month on April 26th. And the same thing is happening. My cramps are worse than before... and flow goes from light to heavy to nothing...etc.
I have started exercising, but I didn't think that would cause my periods to do this!
Anyone know what's up with me or has gone through this??

Hi:
Exercising can greatly affect your period. There are women who participate in heavy physical activity on a regular basis that don't experienced regular periods at all. Stress could be a factor too. However, your irregular pattern seems to be consistent, (if that makes sense). You might want to test for pregnancy. You didn't mention that. I had a multitude of irregular period episodes and events, none of which were life threatening. They were stress related an/or hormonal. check on the possibility of pregnancy and see your doctor about he change in your periods. It could be important.

Thanks for your question foxymamma2005 - this is a great question for so many of us women!
Exercise seems to be the crucial component to the change. If there has not been any other changes in your lifestyle. How about your diet? Have you been eating healthier. I have read that a higher dose in fats and calories can cause a heavier and more prolonged period as opposed to a diet rich in protein and low in fat. Exercise will definately change your period but for the better ultimately.
If your next period seems to be as irregular and you are still concerned it is best to take a visit to your family physician or your gynecologist so they can address these concerns and treat your symptoms.
