hello,I am 23 and I have a history of obesity and extremly irregular and absent periods my entire life, recently I changed my diet from high fat junk food to extremly low fat vegetarian health food stuff,as a result I have lost nearly 100 pounds in six months :-D Recently I started to show all the symptoms of normal ovulation(mucus changes and so forth)but when my period did come it came extremly light,I can only really see it on toilet paper and it hardly stains my pad,I am worried because I have no idea what this is,I know I can't be pregnant, because I'm not sexually active :'( This has been going on for a week,I have no other symptoms besides two very painful zits :'( And I even went through PMS a few days before it happened,I just have no clue what is going on,is this my body's way of finally regulating itself? And will things get better once I lose more weight? When I was 12 and I got my first period I weighed 180 pounds, and I ate nothing but junk food,is this a factor? %-)

Obviously, if you are not sexually active then nothing serious such as an STD or pregnancy would be affecting you, so it is pretty clear that your body is adapting to a sudden drop in body fat. 100 pounds in six months is a very radical change in body mass! Your menstrual cycle reflects the state your body is in surprisingly accurately, even the slightest things like stress or a change in food intake can affect your flow, and with such a dramatic change in weight, i would be surpirsed if you periods hadn't been affected! Your periods will settle down over the months, just make sure you continue to eat well, and congratulations of your weight loss!

I agree.  You don't have to be scared that you have an STD in this case. It is something else. While some people generally do have a light period, for some this is not really ok. Generally, a very light period should alarm you. In most cases, there’s a serious health problem that stands behind it and you need to determine why this happens to you and your body. Of course, don't get me wrong, because it doesn`t mean that scanty menstruation is always a pathology. It can be a side effect of the hormonal contraception if you are using it. But when everything is OK, you should know that normal menstrual bleeding lasts for 3-7 days, in case if you are wondering how long should period last. Good luck!

Yes,I am excited about my weight loss :-P I'm living a new lifestyle right now,and it feels great :-D I am also happy to say that my bizarre period ended this afternoon :-D And,like my mom said,be fortunate that you got one,and that my drastic weight loss did cause it :-D

Oh,it started in again this morning, then stopped 8-| I know it means nothing, but it's just annoying and bothersome >;) I never thought that losing weight could throw off my periods like that, but once again,I guess I should consider myself lucky, because before I started my diet I rarely got a period, and at least I think I'm finally regulated
