My spine surgeon did not inform me of the procedure for a cervical posterior foraminotomy.  Woke up in post op holding my head from the pain. Didn't know why it would hurt, and nobody told me at that time.  If you want information on your procedure, do check out the SUGITA or Mayfield head holder. It should explain everything, but there are many posts listed about this.  My surgeon was very good, but I still would  like to have known everything. Still would have had the surgery to end the constant neck and arm pain.
