For anyone willing to read. Please advise. I was a drug addict/alcoholic from 14 years old to 20 years old when I had a traumatic brain injury in 2005. From which I thought I had made a full recovery. I was intensive inpatient physical and speech therapy for two weeks and outpatient for 6 months. After this I had to attend court for a pending charge and had to go into outpatient recovery even though I was no longer using drugs/alcohol. Recently, I have been suffering with severe insomnia, tinnitus, muscle spasms, and a constant headache, plus a feeling of no joy for the past two months. This was all following an overdose of caffeine and other ingredients in a pre-workout supplement called "Muscle-Tech Shatter#7 Black Onyx - Ripped". It appears as though I had replaced my illegal drug addiction for a legal one of caffeine. I had been taking pre-workout supplements for about ten years up to this time and this day I had decided to take a bit too much. I had taken two scoops of early in the afternoon before hitting the gym. After the gym I took another scoop before going to the pool with a protein shake. I then had two more scoops later on that evening before going to an event for some energy. I immediately felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest and my brain was going to explode. I went to the ER and was treated with two iv bags to flush it out of my system. They had to put me on a mobile IV because I could not stay still, I paced the halls of the ER like a raging drug addict. They checked my vitals and blood and said everything was okay after 4 hours they released me. Ever since I have had insomnia, tinnitus, headaches and don't feel myself. This is creating a lot of anxiety and depression in my life. I saw a family doctor and he prescribed me trazadone to help me sleep, He also prescribed me an antibiotic (levofloaxin) because he said I had build up in my ears. He also recommended me to get an MRI of my brain and to see a neurologist. I got the MRI with and without contrast. I scheduled and appointment with a neurologist. This trazadone only allowed me to sleep for a couple of hours and it was the worst sleep ever with vivid nightmares. I went to the ER the following day and they prescribed me lorazepam. This helped me to sleep for at least a couple hours. I couldn't go on like this, so I searched for the best sleep doctors in my area, but the earliest appointment wasn't for nearly a month out. I scheduled an appointment. In the mean time I saw the neurologist and he told me that the MRI report that I had gotten was not detailed enough and referred me to his Radiologist. So I went to get another MRI and MRA this time with and without contrast. After getting the results from the second MRI and MRA. saw a sleep doctor at the University of Miami Sleep center and they prescribed me Clonazepam 1mg to take each night an hour before I go to bed, telling me the reason I couldn't sleep was due to anxiety. I didn't believe this to be the case but took the prescription anyway because I was a month without sleep at this point. I had another sleep doctor scheduled the following day and he set me up for a sleep study. Before the sleep study I had been taking the Clonazepam and it worked the first night or so I slept great for like 6 hours awaking feeling like I had slept, but this soon subsided and I was up all night again a couple nights in a row, before calling the sleep doctor that prescribed them and he had me up the dose to 1.5 mg. I did this for a few nights. Then it was time for my sleep study. The sleep study was from 9 pm to 5 am and I didn't fall asleep until 2 am even after taking the clonazepam 4 hours prior at a 1.5 mg dose. I had a an appointment with the sleep doc that prescribed the sleep study and he told me that I didn't have sleep apnea and suggested that I taper my way off of the sleep meds, so he prescribed me a .5 mg dose and told me to take 1.5 for the first week, 1 for the second week and then .5 mg for the third week before stopping use completely. He told me the results from the sleep study showed that I don't have sleep apnea. I already knew this. He then told me that there is nothing more he could do for me and referred me to a psychologist to do Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. I have also seen an ENT for the tinnitus and was told that there is nothing he could do. I am now tapered off the Clonazepam as of last night and having severe withdrawals. I have numbness in my left hand and foot and could not sleep at all last night. I am now up for nearly two months with no rejuvenating sleep. I am at wits end and need to find some relief. I have also had a hot stone massage that made me a little relaxed but didn't produce sleep. I will be seeing a new Primary care doctor and a holistic doctor next week. Please any advice and info is welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read and God Bless.
