Hi,

I have been on birth control Sprintec for 5 months. In the past 4 months, I've been getting my periods on the day they are predicted. But, I had an incident and I resorted to taking the Next Choice emergency pill a week before my period was predicted. Now, it's been 3 days since this predicted period and I haven't gotten it. What are the chances of pregnancy on both regular birth control and emergency contraception. I take my pill every day at the exact time, and have never missed it. Am I just suffering from side effects or could I really be pregnant? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Katy,

It's very unlikely that you are pregnant.

More likely your period is late due to the Next Choice.  Emergency contraceptives contain very large doses of hormones and a VERY COMMON side effect is a late or early period.  It may also be lighter or heavier than normal.

Regular birth control is more effective than the ECP so you likely didn't need the Next Choice.

You can test now if you want.  I don't think it necessary.

It may take a few cycles for you to get back to a "normal" cycle.

Hope it helps.
