I had my surgery last Monday. I am having worse pain post op then pre-op. My doctor says it's very unusual to have a lot of pain afterwards. On Friday I went to the ER because my doctor sent me to have a CAT scan. The neurosurgeion says everything looks beautiful on film. He says it must be muscle spasms at the back of the neck. They gave me oxcodone at first...then switched me to percocet. and as fo Friday I am taking 5 mg for the supposed muscle spasms. Still the pain is bad. On Friday it was the worse pain I ever had, a 10. Now it is an 8. The doctor refuses to give me a couple of days worth of something stronger for pain. I don't understand this. They say they worry about addiction but I don't see how giving me a few days worth of something stronger to help me rest would hurt. It's not like I can get anything more beyond what they perscribe. The said that most people don't have this pain....they implied I am the only one who has had this happen. I don't know what to do. They said they only thing I could do was go back to the ER if things are so bad. I don't want to spend the money to do that when I know they will just send me back home.
This is such a nightmire. I was better before the surgery then this. I wish I hadn't had it now. Please if someone has a suggestion please help me.

I also had same surgery last week. Same pain med. Same muscle spasms. I have found it is important to take the pain med every 4 hours . This way you stay on top of it.
Also did you Dr give you muscle relaxers? That is specifically for the muscle spasm and are very effective especially at night. Also a week worth of sleeping aid would be helpful. If you can sleep your muscles can relax better.
Hang in there it will get better in the next couple of weeks.

I had c-4-5,5-6 and 7. The pain is no joke. I am managing my pain with Ms Contin,Norco,Soma and Xanax. I take 1 every 6 hrs. If you took alot of pain meds before surgery thats why the pain is worse. Also you should take 3 walks a day and rest. Ice packs are the best. Your pain will go away slowly. Think positive and don't smoke. It slows down the healing,Leaving u with longer pain.
