My daughter has been prescribe Ambien 10 mg. She has been taking it for over a year. The past six months she has changed so much. Very sleepy though the day, depression, anxiety, and anti social. Her Dr. put her on anti depression med. about 4 weeks ago. She has gotten lots better, but together we began looking into the side affects of Ambien and are shocked! All the symptoms she has suffered for the past year or so appears to possibly be from taking Ambien on a reg. basis. Why would her Dr. not know that this medication is what could be causing her to act this way?
Has anyone else experienced this situation? She is calling her Dr. tomorrow and finding out the past possible way to get off this drug.
Thanks for your help.

This situation that your daughter is going trough happens quite often, and the best thing she could have done is to try to stop taking the drug. I have been prescribed similar type of drug for constant insomnia, and it took me six months to find out that it’s recommended that sedative hypnotic drugs – and Ambien is one of them, are not to be used for longer than a week. What were the initial symptoms that your daughter had? Did she have to increase the dosage? I’m asking because perhaps her doctor evaluated that benefits for her are bigger than the risks of having side effects from taking Ambien. In any case, you should know that it’s possible to fight the addiction, although it can seem hard, but there are a lot of people who have gone through this, and defiantly the first step is to admit that she has become dependent of the medication.

Yes, my wife has migraines and the ambien was supposed to help her slee off the migraines. Now her memory is short term and she basically does not have a life during the day. Suggestions will be greatly accepted.
