I have the same problem. My Dr. said that the sotalol is not the problem but I know that it is by talking to other people on this medication and on forums such as this. I have put on 30 pounds in 3 yrs on this medicine and I am about to take myself off of it.

The dilemma is when weight gain is becoming counterproductive to good health. I am taking minimum dose and have put on 30-plus pounds since going on soya lol three years ago for AF.

I was having a real problem of going into A Fib. So 9 months ago the heart doctor put me on Sotalol. I have no energy and have gained 17 pounds since I have been on the medication. It has really helped me with the A Fib. but the side effects are terrible. I had a ablation done 6 mos. ago I have not had any A Fib. since. I am going to start taking 1/2 the dose I was taking. I was taking 180 mg per day.

Despite taking two 80mg doses of sotalol daily, I have lost about 15 pounds. I ride my bike 25 miles a day and keep my calorie intake to approximately 1700 a day. This is pretty extreme for me, (a 67 year old male) but there isn't a real alternative. Sotalol makes it a real pain to lose even one pound for sure. If I let up for a day or two, then the weight shoots right back up there...

I am curious if you did stop taking the sotalol? I have been on sotalol for two years and have gained 45 pounds. I've had serious health issues during that time and thought that at age 46 that it was just my metabolism slowing down plus the added health problems that has caused the wt gain. I've dieted, exercise and actually eat less than I ever have and nothing helps. I went to the cardiologist today because of vtach and he thinks the sotalol could be causing it so he's taking me off of it and going to try another beta blocker can't wait to see if there is a change in my wt

Greetings all. I am also on Sotalol and have been for about 8 years. The weight gain is quite bad and ongoing but I do wake up most days in stable sinus rhythm, so I can't complain. This negative side effect is pretty well documented now. Search: Lee et. al. 2011 " Metabolic sequelae of b-blocker therapy: weighing in on the obesity epidemic? " Anyone have any advice as to an alternative? My cardiologist was not able to help.

yes 10 pounds in less then 3 months! I suspect the Sotalol because I have not increased my food intake at all, on the contrary. Getting a second ablation in a week and hope to get off the Sotalol and everything else.

I had heart failure a few years ago and was generally a healthy weight (though my thyroid was overactive too) but I had wondered why now I gain weight. I eat much less and much more healthy than I ever did. I have just started to look at sotalol as that is the only medication I have been on consistently. My sotalol is for AF. It would be interesting to hear from others.
