My mother has a problem with high blood pressure. Doctor prescribed to her medication called atenolol. My aunt also has a similar problem and she is using another medication called metoprolol. She said that those medications are same. So, can somebody tell me, please, are atenolol and metoprolol same drug?

Well, Atenolol and Metoprolol are not the same drug but they belong to the same group of drugs. They are beta-blockers and they are used in the treatment of high blood pressure, migraine headache, angina pectoris and heart attack. Atenolol and Metoprolol are very similar but they still have some differences.
