so i was wondering if a bacterial infection can cause weight gain? well i have recently gained weight within the last month or two. and i went to the dtrs and she told me i had an infection. so i was concerned if that was why i gained weight so fast.

Ok, I'm not a doctor, I'm just a molecular/microbiologist, but I found this site on a web search because the same thing happened to me. I mysteriously gained ~30 lbs while not increasing food intake, and my only link was a bacterial infection. Which, if you asked me a few years earlier, I would have guessed that such a thing would not be likely. However, I'm starting to think that certain strains of bacteria are able to manipulate our metabolism/fat storage mechanisms at the molecular level...though I have no clue how or why. That's a hypothesis I'll have to work on later 8-|

But if there are any doctors or scientists out there who have observed bacteria influencing the weight of an infected animal/human, PLEASE post it here along with your hypothesis about the most likely cause of the metabolic influence, thanks!
