I broke my right femur in a car accident about 10 years ago. I now have a rod and two screws. One in my hip and one right above my knee. The rod and the screw in my hip never give me problems. But recently when I squat down to grab something or pet a dog my screw above my knee seems to shift and gets "stuck". Sometimes I can squat back down and it will shift back down, but this time it seems to be "stuck" for good. I know removing the screw would be the best bet. However, not currently having insurance is preventing me from this. Has anyone ever had this experience? Any help would be appareciated.

I broke my femur 3 yrs ago. Horrible hip pain and felt like the rod was digging into the tissue with every movement. My leg rotated in. I had the rod removed after six months. What a relief in my hip area but it still hurt in my hip and my leg turned in. I did yoga and biked and tried so hard to rehab. Finally went to another doctor. Internally rotated thirty degrees. He went in to rebreak it... Discovered there was a hip fracture that was missed and my leg was internally rotated from the hip not the fracture site. But I had valgus deformity at fracture site. It took him 4 hours to fix everything the best he could. That leg still hasn't healed. It's been 10 months. Leg is half inch shorter than the other one. Just had the rod removed even though it has a little more healing to go. But the rod was causing so much pain and bruising. Praying it heals and no more surgery. Always listen to your body. Nobody would listen until the second surgeon. He was shocked I had been getting around as well as I had. Both rods caused me horrible pain and I'm pretty tuff. I know others that haven't had any problems with a rod. I actually have one in my other tibia that doesn't bother me. But don't doubt yourself. That is a miserable pain.
