Here it comes. My allergies are restless. I am especially allergic to dust. I am now renting some room at the center, and the dust it everywhere no matter how much I clean it. I usually take Loratadine in those kinds of situations but now I am taking Diphenhydramine for my insomnia and I don't know can I combine those two medicines. Can you help me?

We are here to help and to share experiences. Both of those medications are antihistamines so I would not recommend you to take it at the same time. It can be dangerous because it could build up antihistamines in your body and you can overdose. That would not be a good thing. You can try Nasalcrom for your allergy, it is successful and it can be combined with antihistamines.

I've not taken them at the same time, but I have taken loratadine twice (once in the morning, once in the afternoon) and then took 2 diphenhydramines in the late evening. I've done this several times and haven't had a reaction to it.

You don't need to go to the ER. Call poison control. They will guide you.

None of these people know what they're talking about. Loratadine (Claritin) and Diphenhydramine can absolutely be taken together for most people with no problem at all.
Loratadine is usually in 10mg tablets and you can safely take at least a couple times this amount (though I am not advocating one should do this)
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride comes usually comes in 25mg and 50 mg tablets and taking more than that will increase your risk of complications however many users can easily take 100 mg without any real concern for saftey.
These two chemicals do not react, however they can cause an "additive" effect when taken together.
If you take just one 10mg tab of loratadine and 50mg of diphenhydramine, you will probably be just fine.
I take Loratadine and diphenhydramine hydrochloride together every day and my doctor has said this is just fine.

Please keep in mind I am not a doctor and this is only what I have researched and experienced. Your body chemistry may be different and so it is possible this information may not work for you. Always check with a doctor or pharmacist.

People here are ridiculous. Talk to a pharmacist or technician authorized to give OTC advise.

Loratadine (Claritin) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl) are two very classic safe antihistamines. One of them being an H1 antihistamine with reduced risk of drowsiness.

They can be safely taken together but you should speak to your local pharmacist or your doctors nurse before mixing them.

If you can’t wait (have urgent need for rapid relief from severe allergies) you can take the combo but be mindful that it can cause you to become very sleepy, you may need to stay off of the road and not operate machinery. If you encounter any trouble breathing or serious life threatening events occur dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
