I am 1 1/2 weeks post op from having my 3rd neck surgery in 10 yrs and this last one was to fix my left arm/shoulder pain and limited range of motion, well the surgery immediately fixed this , the left side was 100% ok right when the anesthia wore off, however immediately my right shoulder and upper arm hurt and it has not stopped hurting, I can barely turn my head to the right now, I am so depressed and worried, I don't have time to have more issues, I also have been diag with "failed back surgery syndrome" from a multilevel fusion done in 2010 and I have spinal stenosis and DDD, bulging discs in the back, spondelithesis, and other horrible stull. I have been recently referred to a pain mangnt spec as I felt my doctor gave up on me as well and I feel he doesn't care, I feel desperate. I feel terrible for my children having a sick mommy all the time, I am a single mom, no dad, i need to go back to work Mon. I have idea how I will do this? I have barely been able to work for the past year or more, I make it but I'm drained from the pain and worry. I want to apply for disability but im so afraid i will be denied and then homeless! Has anyone else had one side fixed only to have the other side go out at the same time? The other side was the side that was affected by the prior discs that had been fixed. I need help or advice PLEASE. Especially about if anyone just gave up on surgery and appled for SSDI.

Hi Martyfree , I understand I had fusion in 2010- 7 yrs prior to that had cancer Im only in my 40s --I did ok for 18 months and ---woke up one day to neck/shoulder pain on right side-- shoulder being the worst and has never stopped. Im working but I struggle everyday. Its taken a toll. Do you have long term disablity with your job?? Monday seems way too soon go back to work after this surgery usually 4-6 weeks. Are you in a collar now? Im sorry your frustrated and sad. Not only have to deal with this pain --but mentally takes a toll on family and jobs. Neck patients are struggling to be normal. Nobody understands this until they walk in the shoes of a person who had spinal surgery. As far as disbality it takes 1 to 2 years to get and I would suggest attorney helps speed the proccess. Some people have it with the job until ssi kicks in-- but it all depends on your benefits at work. I understand how hard it is-- and I worry too !! About my future and will I lose everything eventually I worked 25 yrs for ---family,friends, I feel sometimes they get tired of you not feeling better and I got to a point I hide how I feel to everyone in my life. I know that's not healthy either but its my reality and my way of coping. Your still very early stage from surgery maybe your symptoms will improve. I know its hard ---but just take one day at a time !!!! I know alot of people after many spinal surgerys have alot of pain intially for several weeks and gotten better in a few months. I wish the same for you. I guess I wanted to let you know your not alone in your feelings many of us understand and feel your struggle!! Dont lose your faith!!
