Hi, I have arthritis and my legs really hurt. My mother had the same problem for the last 20 years, and all that time she used cortisone shots. It was helpful in releasing pain, but I don’t know if it was healthy too. Does anyone know how many injections can I have without any danger of side effects? I could use any other information about this medicine too.

Hello! I know about these injections, because my grandmother has used them for a long time. Cortisone shots have been used to relieve arthritis symptoms for more then fifty years. However, this relief is just temporary. It lasts several weeks to several months. Cortisone can not cure the condition, but it helped my grandmother hold off a joint replacement surgery for many years. It works as a local anesthetic by injecting it into the painful spot. It is probably unpleasant to put a needle into the joint, but at least it doesn’t, so don’t worry about that. About your first question, there is no limit to the number of injections, but you shouldn’t take more than three. One more thing you should know about cortisone shots, is that they can flare up arthritis in the hours after a shot, but you don’t have to worry, it will past the next day.
