Thank you for this msg, so much of us are going thru the same thing yet the dr and inventors of this drug sit back and still back it up. Besides the side affects there are after affects. I somehow still had a full cycle while on the shot the only change was it lasted 14 days. I been off the shot now a full month. My last shot was Nov.2.2011 since then ive experienced every sign of a pregnancy possible. I am however going to the doctor friday to see whats up only because im experiencing bleeding after sex which is putting a strain on my relationship. I doubtr its anything serious its just lite spotting but you gave me hope honestly so many other articles/ forums/ and post ive read were women who are lost and confused and trying for months years to get pregnant.

Hey Taiesha,

I'm glad my post helped you a bit. I remember trying to find some info when i was going through the same thing and there was nothing useful out there, so i thought i would try and help people with what i had been through.

I hope docs goes well for you friday, dont let them scare you though, sometimes they just wanna check things just to be sure and cover their backs.... when i told them i was having irregular bleeding after coming off the depo, the nurse thought i was having a etopic pregnancy!!! sooo scary!!! I wasn't though, just the depo wearing off.

Thing is nurse's and docs dont seem to realise the actual side effects of coming off this shot and said it wasnt because of that so they sent me for a smear and colposcopy!!!! Had a couple of these now the last year, everything good :) They really like to worry people!!!
So just thought i would give you a heads up!!

Hi Kerry,

Great to hear other people are going through what I am however scary it is. I do think your right you just have to get it out of your system, hope for the best and stay positive.
I have been on the depo for the best part of 12 years!! I had my last jab in July of last year and got my first period at the end of March, 7 and a half months later. The period lasted 4 days was very heavy and i passed some clots. They are now coming every 2 weeks, thursday into friday, lasting 3 to 4 days but agonising and sometimes with clots. Mine is very red though mostly and sometimes slightly darker but not brown?? I am hoping this is just my body trying to get back to normal? I feel a little relieved they are regular even if frequent although i did think i was having a mis-carriage with the 3rd one as was so painful and once i had passed clot, pain eased off immediately where as normally pain continues right the way through the period? I am going to the doctor next week to discuss this. I am 30 years old and do want kids although not to eager for them to appear just yet. However, i feel i have to stay off contraception and risk it happening slightly earlier than planned as the thought of not being able to have them kills me. Just before my periods returned i also suffered with very sore breats and nipples, back pain and nausea. A pregancy test came back negative and about 4 weeks later my periods returned. Not enjoying the hormones and ups and downs emotionally ( nor is my boyfriend!) Hoping and praying no problems with fertility? I would strongly advise anyone considering taking it not to and to either find another alternative or go back to good old fashioned condoms and being very very careful if they don't want to get pregnant. This is clearly not good or natural for your body - my mother told me it didn't seem right and should i be taking it 12 years ago and i should have taken heed (I am one of 5 though!) but knew i did not want to have children young and have fun and a career first. I never thought a sensible decision would leave me in this predicament and such huge fears over infertility.
Good luck to all ladies who are going through this. I sympathise immensely! x

i was on the shot for 2yrs and i came off, my doctor told me it would take me 8months before i got my period back and start to ovulate and exactly 8months after coming off i got pregnant, i had my son, after having him and going for my 6week chq up i tried the marina and after a few weeks of having it in, it came out to the point where i could feel the string hanging so i gently pulled and it came right out 2weeks later i found out i was pregnant again, unfortunatly i lost it and decided to go back on the injection. i was on it for 2 doses and my boyfiend and i decided to try again so ive been off of it now for 6months and through out those few months ive been bleeding on and off, spotting brown blood, having cramps and back pains ive recently started having my period again but its still irregular (on for 4day then off for 2 weeks then on again for a next 4-5day)

im thinking about going on the pill to regulate my period or taking fertility blend but i have an appt with my doctor on the 28th so hopefully i'll know more and can decide on what to do! :(

I'm writing this post for all the women like myself that have been on Depo for any length of time and would like to get pregnant.I would like to be the positive voice for this drug as most of what you find on line is all negative...most people who are happy with something do not post anything on line. I was on Depo for 15 years straight....no breaks....no periods, yes for 15 years! I loved everything about it! Not only did I not have a period, but my PMS was drastically reduced and no, I did not gain any weight...in fact after I had my shot administered I felt less bloated and an overall sense of well being. My last shot was in late December 2011, I went on the pill in late March 2012. I did this to bring back and help to regulate my period...also, I was getting married in mid May and did not want to chance any kind of bleeding for the big day or for the honeymoon! I only went through 2 packs of the pill and then stopped birth control all together. I got my first period early June, second period early July, third period 29 days later.....then.....I GOT PREGNANT! I am now 14 weeks pregnant and everything is going great! My advice to any woman who is looking for advice is to stop looking on line as it will only stress you out...what you read is not true for everyone! In fact, I believe that there may be other issues and reasons that one may not be getting pregnant and that it's probably not the Depo at all! Speak with you doctor and work out a plan that is best for you...everyone is different and every situation is different! Be realistic about your timeframe, give yourself at least a year to get pregnant after Depo, if you haven't gotten pregnant after a year make an appointment with a fertility specialist...cover all your bases...GOOD LUCK to all of you and most importantly, don't stress yourself out by reading negative posts!

Try the ortho evra patch for like 2 weeks. This will raise your estrogen levels and help you ovulate.

I had 2 shots of depo and was due for another on October 17th but never went to get it since my boyfriend and I decided to have a baby. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant so it didn't take me long at all. I think everyone reacts differently, but as long as you get your period back after stopping the shots you should be fine. Good luck!!
