I wonder why the doctors aren't teaching us this as a part of our after care treatment as it is so helpful, less wiping,, cleaning, no bearing down in this position, no cramping, less burning. I found the recovery time of the throbbing to be down to 2 minutes rather than the 15-20 minute marks I was hitting..plus I was having to get right into a sitz bath after the other way and take a pain pill right after each bm, icing and many other things to sooth myself after a bm...really wish I would have found this technique the first day!! Also bleeding less.

So I'm back here again.
It's over 3 weeks since I've had surgery, and I'm not doing well at all.Been able to work last week, but whenever I have BM I have to go home.
This of course ruins all my spare time, but as a specialist advisor to a major company here in Norway I have some really important meetings I HAVE to attend to as I'm more or less the only one who can handle these things.
Whenever I have BM I have to take two paralgin forte (Kodeinfosfatsesquihydrat 30 mg, paracetamol 400 mg.) and just lay down. I tried to schedule an appointment to get a post op check one or two weeks ago, but the insurance company said that I should just keep on struggling.
Talked to my GP and he said he had gotten no information from the hospital on what kind of surgery I had, but he expected that I should be doing better and better and adviced me to one again contact the insurance company. Now I've finally gotten an appointment on Tuesday 7. May, and I really hope they can help me with my problems.
The pain is one thing, and the other is the insane swelling and burning sensation after BM, and I also get pain in my right leg, is this normal? It's almost like a stifness or throbbing pain which starts at the right side of my anus.
I live in a flat in Oslo, and don't have access to any bath tubs and there's no sitz bath for sale in Norway. I have tried to keep my stool soft, but it's not an easy thing so I have sometimes "given birth" and it's awful. Today the stool was pretty soft but still painful. I've lost a great amount of weight, and from being a natural fit person I'm starting to lose my strenght and my BMI is going down (from 23.39 to 21.7). The first two weeks I lost about 3 kgs (6,6 pounds I think) and at a total I lost about 4 kgs (8.8)
I was planning to take some days of to enjoy the spring at my cabin next week, but I don't have water there so I can't take any showers, was hoping that I would be able to use some wet wipes at the time, but as things are now I don't see that happen.
Anyone who've had experiences with these things?
I would also really like to thank you all for all the advices, and I see now that from my condition this was done to get money, because I just had a bleeding every two months or so, and it wasn't that bothersome for me. So right now I hate everybody, I hate myself and I just want to die. :(

I am sorry you are experiencing this much trouble this far out in your recovery. I am in day 8 and have found the squatty position that I found on youtube.com to be very helpful during the bms. This positions your legs upward..I just prop my feet on the bathrrom trash bin, and it works perfectly. Even today I noticed I do not need to sit in the sitz bath , pain pills, icing ..and all the other things i was doing for recovery after a bm. Now I have the squatty position, some throbbing for about 2 minutes or less I noticed, then on with my day...I really wish the doctors knew about this and would teach it as a part of our aftercare.....

I just visited my doctor for a post-op check due to all the pain, and it seems that I've managed to "breach" one of the stiches of the one outside. He said there is nothing to do other than just live with it and hope for the best. He also said it would take something like 4 weeks at least until I was fully healed. He said this was pretty normal iif you had been constipated, and he said there was nothing else wrong. He couldnt give me any good advice on how to handle this, other than try to shower after each BM, and since I work 5 days a week that's not going to happen. So I think I'll try to use some wet wipes without perfume and other skin irritating ingriedients and hope for the best.
I've tried to check if there's a way to get it to heal faster, as I naturally want to get well.
Any suggestions?

Hi, I have just had a haemorroidectomy , I am too in excruciating pain, reading your account took my mind off it, for a bit, the only way I managed to get any relief at all was to pinch some of my Nanas diazepam, it was the only thing that allowed me to relax. I was panicking so much about my first bowel movement, and how sore I already was and how the pain was going to magnify , and oooohhhh how it magnified it. Now I realise why men don't give birth. Just wondering it still feels ( cause I daren't look) as if I've still got piles little pieces of really sore tissue. Do they clear up? Other wise I'm finding it hard to clean my self properly. By the way, hot baths are my new best friend. Good advice!!

One week post op now and down to paracetamol and ibuprofen 3times a day. My biggest tip would be take your pain relief regularly whether ou feel you need it or not. you will seriously regret waiting til you need them cos it then takes ages to settle. I had stapled haemorroidectomy one year ago and pain was not sbe dad then but unfortunately got infected after a week and ended up in agony and procedure didn't sort problem properly hence a return for haemorroidectomy last week. Pain now only really a problem when I have BM and I quickly hop in a warm bath after which really helps.

Tomorrow will be 14 days from when I had my external surgery. I had one external removed. Back in December, I had three externals removed... and they had to leave one smaller one in hopes that it wouldn't grow. It did due to the fact that the others were out of the way.
I've now been through this process twice in the past 6 months.
I'm somewhat surprised at several of the responses to the amount of pain that people have been experiencing. Maybe my doctor was incredible (I didn't shop around) or maybe I've just been extremely lucky, but I've generally been alright through this process.
Yes, I definitely experienced pain, but for me... it was manageable. I stayed ahead of the pain. I used ice a lot (as my doctor recommended). And I also stayed off my feet and healed. I'm still healing now.
I heard some people were saying anywhere from 3-5 weeks to be able to go back to work. I'm not really a champ kind of person, but after about 8 days, I was able to go in and sit at my desk and do normal activities. Is it still tender? Sure. But again... it's manageable. Yes, I was still being careful and didn't do a TON of moving around, but nothing compared to 5 weeks.
Last surgery, when they removed 3 external (he called them "plump" AND "impressive"), I was out for 14 days from work.
It wasn't fun, but you get through it. It's far from the worst pain I've ever experienced. It's far from what I'd imagine a "gunshot" would feel like.
If you're reading this looking for how you're going to feel... my doctor said that you do not really ever know. Yes, there is a bunch of nerves down there. But after having done this surgery now twice (and I'm hemorrhoid free now!)... I can say with confidence that BOTH times have been manageable.
Maybe others feel this need to compare it to "getting stabbed" or some of the other more creative things... but I'm going to go on record and say that it didn't hurt THAT much to me. I stayed in front of the pain. I took it easy. Ice is nice (use it a lot). And that's about it.
I don't want those that felt pain to think that I'm downplaying what you experienced, but it just wasn't that way for me. My doctor had told me that after care was more important than the surgery itself when it came down to pain management. I took a lot of sitz baths. I kept gauze there as it's been healing. And I've been staying off of my rear unless I really need to sit down.
Last time it took about 3 weeks for me to sit down without "easing down" into the chair. I expect that to be the case for me in another week. At least, that's how I'm hoping it'll go.
So if you haven't had your surgery yet... please do consider all the stuff that people are bringing up. I remember coming here before my surgery and I nearly cancelled it after reading these stories. I had a friend push me to finally keep the appointment. And I'm glad I did. I'd do it again a third time if I absolutely had to. Yes, I would still not desire it... it's not PAIN FREE... but it's not so painful that I would rather live with the hemorrhoids (which will never go away). It already feels much better there. :-)
With as many horrible experiences that are posted here... I can't imagine this response will be well liked... but I felt that people need to know that not everyone has had an awful experience with this surgery. Much less TWICE.
Thanks for listening...

I'm three weeks post surgery and I'm back to normal, for the most part. I still take care of that area and baby it some, but I don't notice it nearly as much now that I'm three weeks out. Since I've done this surgery twice now, I can say that it's on par for what I experienced last time.
Everyone is different, but I'd think that two weeks later, you'll be much better. That's my two cents!

Well I guess that depends if you had internal and external removed at the same time. I am post 1 week surgery and the pain is excruciating when I have a BM. Doc said it would be painful, but as far as pain relief the pain meds I was given just takes the edge off and during a BM no med will help the pain. I had no staples or any kind of stitches they say this is a better form of the surgery that it actually heals faster than using the staples. All and all painful surgery.

I had my hemorrhoids removed with the stapling procedure a little over two weeks ago. I don't know what kind of procedure these other people have had but I had none of the excruciating pain that they did. At its worst, it was no worse than the worst hemorrhoid pain. More pressure than pain. I had the surgery done on Friday 7/5 and was back at work on the following Tuesday. Since my chair at work has very little cushion to it, I did bring in a softer cushion to sit on. By the end of the day, I was a little uncomfortable but it got steadily better every day. The only pain medication I took was some Aleve and that was only three times. I made sure to take some fiber and stool softener so having a bowel movement was only slightly uncomfortable. I am so glad to have had the surgery already. I am going for my two weeks checkup today and I am discomfort-free, can sit and walk for hours without any pressure or pain.

I agree and just posted something similar. They scared me as well and the doctor pooh poohed them when I asked. He was right and they are a bunch of sissies.

I had so many internal hemorrhoids that the doctor said they were a full 350 degrees around inside the rectum. There were also 3 that protruded every time I had a BM. It really wasn't that bad.

I have just completed my treatment done by Mr.Koh from Tonyo Medical Hall.
Initially, I have a lot of doubt about this clinic (the location, the clinic's environment and his methodology). The charges are not cheap but eventually, I was convinced to let him treat me.
I have both internal and external piles and to make things worst, I was also suffering from anal fissure. Within a month, I have seen him 6 times. (1st time inspection, 2nd - 5th time treatment, 6th time - final inspection)
The process was painful and I was filled with anxiety but undeniably, he is very effective.
I am glad that this treatment is finally over for me and I hope he can train some professionals to continue his legacy.
