My mother is 46 years old and I suppose that she will be in menopause soon. I heard that it can be very stressful and because of that I want to know more things about menopause. My friend told me that she maybe will lose her hair. Please, somebody explain to me how is hair loss related to menopause?

I read somewhere that half of all women experience some hair loss during their menopausal years. It happens because their hormonal changes. The most common cause of hair loss is low thyroid function, which is common among menopausal women.
But also genes are to blame for menopause causing acute hair loss, as is the aging process.
