Hi, I am a twenty six years old man. A month ago I started working at a new job. It was all great. During that time, I started taking some antidepressants. Now everybody is avoiding me. It is as if I am not even there. Nobody wants to talk to me anymore. I think that it is because I have no personality since I started taking these drugs. What do you think?

Hi, I do not think that the problem is your lack of personality. Antidepressants, and any other medications, should be taken without compromise if they are a part of the therapy prescribed by the doctor. You failed to tell me what the change in your life, that made you take antidepressants, was. As for your problem with no personality, I must tell you that there is no such thing. It is a human creation to avoid having contacts with some people. This way are, also, described people that do not have the same interest as others. Perhaps the antidepressants that you take have a side affect that makes you act in a way that does not meet up the standards of your colleagues at work. Anyway, talk to your doctor about this issue.

Some antidepressants can DEFINITELY change your personality. Do not believe any psychiatrist or anyone else that says it can't. They are wrong. I have witnessed it many times and experienced it myself as well. You'll notice that most psychiatrists themselves will not take anti-depressants...why? Because they know they are mostly junk and simply a crutch that will not help you fix the problems in your life that led you to become anxious or depressed. The only way to fix depression is to fix the problems in your life that caused you to become depressed. No drug can do that.

This is a terrible idea.
Talk to your doctor BEFORE taking yourself off any medication.
We are not qualified to advise you medically over the internet.
And a stranger telling to you maybe drop your medicaiton is criminal!
Don't do it. Talk to your doctor first.

You should talk to your DR. ask about talking to a therapist in addition to the DR, see if he thinks it will help. I was started on paxil, then zoloft, I now take wellbutrin 600mg a day,. this is over the recommended dosage but I can tell the difference if I drop down to 450.
It is always best to find what works best for you. and if what your taking isn't making you better, then the Dr. should know, so he can decide what the best thing to do is.I don't have the side effects with wellbutrin that I did with the others. For a time I was taking lexapro with the wellbutrin. But the side effects, not being able to reach satisfaction during sex(masturbation). The desire and ability was there, It just took longer to be able to get off. I will not take anything with sexual side effects. Being single, not being able to do anything sexually would only make me more depressed. You pay the DR. to get results, so don't be afraid to be open and talk about anything to do with your depression. It helps them to get you on the right meds, if they know exactly how you are feeling. Good luck.
