I've just had my 3rd Depo shot. I'm experiencing general hair loss but a large amount every time I wash or brush my hair. I'm about to investigate vitamins/herbal supplements, did anyone find something that works? Keen to stay on the Depo shot despite the side effects (hair loss, constant spotting, weight gain) if I can, because I don't have any other viable contraceptive options and stabilising my hormones by not having a 'period week' is the best ever for my migraines.

I got the depo shot in 2011 to stop heavy menstrual flow. My hair did thin out a lot, but I didn't have bald spots. When I stopped getting the shots my hair grew back in but much thinner than before, and up until now it's still growing in thin.

This depo shot is BS my hair is thinning and looks like I have bald spots when I put it up in a pony tail ! I feel tired all the time, lack of motivation and I get my periods longer than I did without depo which my doctor told me I wouldn't have one! I'm only 18 I just wanted effective birth control and no period not this bs I did not sign up for this! No doctor will ever comment on anything that has to do with the depo bc they don't even know what they are giving young women or better yet the side effects! Can't even trust your own doctor smh

The more I read about this the angrier I get. It's making me want to file a lawsuit. This ridiculousness is ruining women's lives. I'm never taking Depp again. My hair I'm sure will start to grow back eventually, but a woman's hair is everything to us. I see commercials for shampoos that give volume, thick, and lustruois hair and I just cry. Not to mention the shedding is so annoying. Every shower is absolutely torturous. I cry doing that as well. Good luck guys. I think we should go to judge Mathis lol

I would get off Depo asap. I too saw the pros of Depp, as I struggle with migraines too. But losing my hair! No unacceptable! The constant bleeding I can manage, but the hair loss I have no patience or tolerance for. I would talk to your doc about alternatives for migraines and contraceptives. Good luck!

I have been on depro for 15 plus years. I did change to the ring like twice in that time. The dr really just said you have been on this for a long time. So I tried something new. But again they let me back on the shot. I had no idea that it was not good to be on this for so many years. I have a thyroid problem that I have had for the same amount of time. I think I chalked most of the systems up to that. I believe now that it was probably both. I stopped using depro for only about two months now and decided not to use any kind of birth control. I immediately began losing hair. It would break and is thinning. I went to my hair stylist that I've used for at least 10 years. She couldn't believe my hair. I have always had thick long hair. I cried looking at my hair and knowing something was wrong. That's probably the worst thing ever. I also am extremely tired, moody, cramping with no period, tenderness in my breast, weight gain and really all over I feel like sh*t. I never knew the horrible things this could cause. It makes you very stressed and depressed. I am hoping to feel better soon. Also praying my hair will be ok. Taking many vitamins to try and help. Also planning on visiting my regular dr again soon just to be sure nothing else is going on. I thought before I stumbled on this that maybe I had some serious medical condition. I feel and pray for each one of you suffering in the same way I am. Do Not Take Depro!!!

I started on the Depo three months ago, was supposed to have my second injection today, two weeks ago my hair started shedding a lot more than regularly especially when brushing and then two days ago I was washing my hair and clumps of hair came out. I have never had an issue with my hair before in my life. My nurse at my local clinic said it can take the body 6-12 months for the effects to wear off and to become fertile again. Not too bothered about the fertile thing but 6-12 months for my hair to stop falling out!!?!?! I spoke to my step mum and she said most things take up to 12 weeks and can't believe I was told 6-12 months! Has anyone else been given similar advice??? I've started taking hair vitamins and won't be taking another shot of this. Might become a nun instead

Thanks so much for responding, I’ve been an emotional wreck since it started. All my nurse said was to take Vitamins specially for hair! I’m going to book an appointment ASAP. Thanks for the advice

I've been on depo for almost two years now. I did not notice hair loss until about six months ago. I told my GYNO and she seemed like that couldn't be a side effect and told me its due to stress or hormones. I now have balding spots on my head and can't even wear my hair in a pony tail. Ive tried hair growth shampoos and biotin, nothing works! My last shot was four months ago, hopefully it gets out of my system quickly!

I'm also losing lots of hair due to the shot, first time using depo and my hair line looks like I have receding hair. Mirena implant gave me cystic acne... all birth control have different side effects so I'm pretty much hopeless... I took the pill, forgot a couple days, now I have a beautiful son. I wish there was a safe birth control.

Yh I've got to agree it's been about 18months since I had a shot and my hair still hasn't grown back and thinning.. on top of that the shot caused me to grow a moustache. Was never warned about any of these side affects
