A response from someone:

i girls just to let you all know a month or so after the shot wore off my hairloss slowed down and not long after that was back to normal hairloss, nearly a year and a half on from writing the first post and my hair is back to how it used to be thick and in really good condition, so there is hope just hang in there! i am now on the pill with no problems and i would never go back on depo and would warn others to keep well away!

I wanted to drop in and say that your hair should grow back! The hormonal changes from depo gave me telogen effluvium. Even after ending depo, so 3 months after your last shot, it could take 6 more months for the hair to stop shedding and start growing back. But most people see a full scalp of hair 1 year after being off depo. I say scalp because your new hairs will only be about 5 inches long but the scalp itself shouldn’t look bare anymore at that point.
I’ve been off depo 3 months and think I see little half inch hairs spread out already.
In the past, I only read that people were losing hair and wasn’t getting any answers on if it grows back or not. I hope this can take some stress off of others suffering from hair loss like me.
I also recommend getting a really good hair cut and getting all dead ends that catch your brush cut off so you can reduce your amount of shedding as much as possible. It’s definitely better to have shorter hair than you want that to see your scalp through your long hair:(

Same issue I’ve been on the shot about a year. I dye my hair so at first I thought maybe it was from the hair dye then I started reading these. My hair went from thick and to the middle of my back to thin and choppy and shoulder length and chin length in areas. I’ve also been extremely irritable, angry and just not happy like I use to be. I’m due for a shot now and I’m not getting it. Did your hair grow back? I’m hoping I go back to myself and that my hair grows.

It is unbelievable how many women experienced this side effect and what is the worst is that doctors haven't told us anything. Mine listed several side effects, but neither one among them was hair loss.
I really hope this is just a hormonal thing and in time my long hair will grow back. I went off depo shot 3 months ago and for now only saw that my hair isn't tinning anymore. Presumably, that's a good sign. For now, I'll wait with using too much cosmetic products because I don't know how much damage my hair has suffered.

This shot was a living nightmare after I was done with it. I got my first shot while in the hospital after giving birth to my son. I stopped getting the shot when my son was 11 years old. The doctor told me that my hair would grow back after I stopped. My son is 26 now and my hair has never grew back. I'm completely bald now and tried everything to grow back my hair. Nothing works! I wish everyone the best of luck with growing your hair back. If I had known that my hair would never grow back. I never would've started.
