I've gone cold turkey from methadone. I took it for 1 1/2 years for back pain. I have never been addicted to anything before and my doctor doesn't seem to know how to get me off (although he was the one that recommended it to begin with) so I don't know what it's like. I went cold turkey at 10mg/day because I was getting too sick when I tried to cut it again so decided to get it over with.
I have cronic lower back pain that is nonstop when I sit or try to lay down for too long. I know of no otc drug that will stop the pain so I can't sleep at night now without taking 2 Hydrocodon at 10/325 strength. I've taken Xanax before that hoping it would knock me out like it used to but it doesn't. I have never been addicted to hydrocodon and always used to take it on an as needed basis.
The question my doctor can't answer is....will the hydrocodon or xanax counteract or extend the length of time it will take to get over this suffering? It's been 8 days now and it seems like the last 3 days i've been bouncing between feeling better one day and sicker the next. Is this normal? Should I stop the hydrocodon or xanax now?
We are living check to check now and my window of opportunity to ride this out is closing. Please help.

Hi there, hydrocodone is in the same family as methadone so it may be interfering with your recovery. I don't know if scaling back is advisable or not but I am putting that out there. DOes that help you at all?
