Non error adverse drug reactions kill hundreds of thousands of people each year, according to the OMB. These are medicines taken in the right amount, by the right person, at the right dose, and at the right time. Please know what you are talking about before saying things like "Pills never killed everyone." Iatrogenic, or treatment caused death is a hug problem in today's world, and adverse drug reactions kill more people than all other medically related errors combined.

@ "Concerned"
What's funny is that your husband is more than likely on something more than Soma. Soma doesn't make you act "drunk". It's a muscle relaxer, not an intoxicating substance.
Also, saying that there are "alteratives" (I think you meant "Alternatives", Ms/Mrs.Doctor's assistant.)
is kind of a stab in the dark. If you've got mild headaches or some stomach cramps from eating too much spicy food, then yeah. You can "Mind over matter" your way through the pain or do some stretches and help tone the minor pains down, but when it comes to real pain (and I mean honest to god "I have a medical condition in which I am in constant and horrible pain.", not "Eh, I could stand to pop some pills and get mellow right now") is when medication becomes the crutch that people need to keep going.
Oh, and Soma is not a Narcotic. The more I read and re-read your post, the more I think you're lying through your teeth about working at a PT's office. Or if you indeed do, I feel bad for the poor people you misinform every time you open your mouth ,especially considering their lives depend on that information.
The other thing is, in order for your husband to even really get "Drunk" from Soma, he'd have to be taking them like candy, popping four or five every hour or so....Which no doctor is going to provide knowingly, so in effect your husband is illegally abusing legal medication, which isn't the fault of the medicine, but his own.
My father and I have both been on Soma and Methocarbamol 750, both of us have issues with our spines, and neither one of us have been "drunk" on it. Likely due to the fact that we didn't act like an id**t and try to get high off of our medication like your husband.
As far as the whole MJ rant, that's just kind of silly. MJ isn't a muscle relaxer. It's a brain-altering chemical called THC. They'd be used for two completely different things. Muscle relaxers actually prevent things like spasms or at least make them manageable. MJ has more in common with something like Ativan/Valium than a painkiller. It works on the brain more heavily whereas muscle relaxers work on the body.
Long story short, Your husband's a drug addict and needs rehab, You have a bad case of the "I-Don't-Really-Know-What-I'm-Talking-About-itus" and really want to get as high as your husband.
@ Most people
Soma is slightly stronger (Especially if brand name) but can be harsher on your stomach (From both my and my father's experience.) whereas Robaxin / Methocarbamol is a little weaker but generally speaking they're going to do about the same thing. Methocarbamol is more common, so if you've been given muscle relaxers for the first time, this is more than likely what you're going to be given, whereas Soma tends to be a backup plan in the event that the Robaxin / Methocarbamol doesn't really work or you have reactions to it.
