just starting birth control and first period is really weird, like nothing I have ever had.

Ok, so I recently started birth control and I started the sugar pills 4 days ago and just today I got my period. I was excited because I was nervous about being 4 days late, but here is my dilema, my period is really weird to anything that I have ever had before and that makes me nervous. The consistancy is like a pale red slime almost and it's not like typical blood. Also I have had a few clots that are thicker than normal, and they look kind of like tissue, is this normal or should I be worried?
