Yes this is normal, in fact the same thing happened to me only in my case 3 days later. When you take birth control pills, your body no longer makes its own 'reproductive hormones' they are synthetic (fake) and produced and regulated by the pill. When you stop taking the pills, there are no hormones, therefore throwing your body into 'period mode' because the level or 'regulation' hormone abruptly disappeared. It will take a little while (probably a month or 2) for your body to readjust and your peroids will then become regular or normal for you. Hope this helps!!

Does that mean I'll have my period for a few months? I just stopped taking the pill cause it made me really sick, and now I have my period. I've had it for at least a week, and I'm kind of getting sick of it. lol. I'm getting another form of birth control in my arm on the 14th, but i dont know if I can go another week with my period. Is there anything I can take to stop it? Should I have just stayed on the pill, ? What should I do? I really dont want to have my period much longer, and it should have ended by now.
