Hi there, so glad I'm not alone in this! I've been on Lexapro & 2 other meds (Lamotrigine & Seroquel) for 5 years, and I was finally able to get off them 2-3 months ago (Lexapro about a few weeks ago, since I'd get bad brain zaps when i don't take it).
Since then, I've had all these big, cystic, pus & blood-filled acne and everything I'm doing is not working. Have your skin cleared up now?

Hey, how're you doing now? Has your skin cleared up? I've only been off Lexapro for a few weeks so I hope my face WILL eventually clear up and not permanently damaged....

I know this is a fairly old post- but literally I am experiencing the same thing- earlier this year I stopped taking birth control (had been on for a decade) and recently- a month ago if that- tapered of Lexapro (was on that for a little less than a year). I'm 26 going on 27 this month and not only have I put on about 25 lbs (usually 125 and now I'm up to 146/150), but I haven't had my period in months and my skin is absolutely horrible now (and usually my skin is basically perfectly clear)- can you give me some tips on how you were able to get your "normal" self back? Did you also gain weight that you had to lose? Your advice would be a god-sent. I'm so sick of putting so much work into my figure and my skin and seeing no results!

Hi there. It's been 3 months since I stopped taking Lexapro, and my horrible cystic breakouts are now calming down. There are still a few active pimples, but they're not as painful as before & I don't have to put gauze on my face on a daily basis anymore.
I think that the intensity of this breakout will decrease in the future, but I don't know WHEN it'll finally be over.
What I've been doing is to keep my face clean (but not too clean - don't wash with harsh face cleansers), using natural ingredients & products (after an acne erupts, I clean it with witch hazel, and then put honey & cover with gauze). I take honey everyday to help my body repairs itself, eat more fruits & veggies.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, just hang in there while this detox period is undergoing. I've tried so many things to no avail, and I've come to think that patience is my only way of surviving. Honestly, this horrible withdrawal from Lexapro has made me realized that these psych meds are no good for me. They're more trouble than what they claim to give - cure. Even the pharma companies don't know 100% on how their meds work.
I hope we'll all get through this & it'll be over soon. All the best to you.

How long did it take your skin to settle down? I went from 40 to 20 mg in December, in my head I feel fine, but I'm getting new spots every day, it's really knocking my confidence.

With anti depressants they usually will affect you GI tract once going off. When your intestines are acting up the inflammation which comes from them can also come out on your skin. I have experienced this my myself. Try eating good GI foods like probiotics, beets, fermented veggies and so on. I am a licensed Aesthitician and have had to go through so many trial and errors to finally figure this out. My heart goes out to you all! Know that you aren't alone and so many of us have had to experience this horrible disfiguring heart ache.

It's been 8 months since I stopped taking Lexapro, and my acne hasn't gone away fully. They've significantly calmed down, but during my menses, I'd get those bleeding acnes (around 2-5 big bumps). I notice a lot of improvements on my skin when my fruits & veggies intake increases & meat intake decreases. That's just my personal observation. One way of adding more fruits & veggies to your diet is by making & drinking green juices or smoothies. Taste really good & are great snacks.

I have been in a deep depression. In efforts to help myself my dr put me on lexapro. I was on it for two days and suddenly my skin became super oily and I started getting little clogged pores. I stopped taking it after third day and it's been 3 weeks and I now have horrid cystic acne all over both cheeks and my chin. I used to get the odd pimple here and there nothing like this teenage acne I'm 33!. This is awful!! Has anyone else had this happen after only taking lexapro for a few days?? How long before it subsided!?

Hi... Sorry for my english if it is not perfect, I'm from Quebec ( Canada )
How much time did it take to have your clear skin back? I'm 23, never had any break out of my life BUT I took lexapro during 6 years. I began the withdrawal since 1 year and a half.... like 6 months on 15 mg, 6 months on 10 mg, and 6 months on 5 mg...... and guess what..... I HAVE MAJOR CYSTIC ACNE ON MY CHIN .... it is unbelievable... each time I was slowing down the amount of medication, more and more pimples were showing....... I dont understand why... and at the moment there are all still there and i'm on 5 mg since 6 months.... :(.... So, It would be really nice to see if with the years you clear skin came back....

I've been 100% free from Lexapro for 1 year and 3 months now. My skin is getting better. There are still acne here & there, but they only become severe & big if I get stressed. Otherwise, they're just small.
I do chemical peeling once a month & it's been helping in clearing those pesky acnes. It doesn't do wonders though, but I do realize that this skin problem isn't just topical but also internal, so I'll keep on being patient.
I hope next year my skin will be much, much better. Will update soon. Stay positive everyone & all the best!

I took Lexapro for about three years, and took a break for about 8 months, and am now back on it.
During the break, I had acne, which I have never had before (I'm 27 years old). It was extremely painful and around the chin.
Now that I'm taking lexapro again, it's cleared up. I came here looking to see of others have experienced the same. Looks like I'm not alone!
