I have weaned from Lexapro twice. I was CRAZY the first time. The emotional problems were far beyond measure. I was in a bind financially so I asked my dr to prescribe Prozac because it costs so much less and I had been on it before with no withdrawal symptoms when I quit. I took one 20 mg Prozac and that covered ALL of my withdrawal symptoms.

I had been considering weaning from Prozac this spring. Lexapro became generic and the pharmacy gave me that. I had hoped to wean from Lexapro, so, I took it. But the generic, it was very bad for me. I had headaches, sleep disturbances, anxiety and a general feeling of lack of well-being. So, I called the doc, who prescribed Prozac. I took two 10 mg the first day and have been on 10mg for about 10 days. Since I am 'normal' feeling, I will be going off Prozac in the next week. The thing about Prozac that is so excellent is that it lasts in your body for 6 weeks. So, your body weans itself as it cleans it out of your system!

I highly recommend taking Prozac to deal with the Lexapro withdrawal. I wish more doctors knew this was a way to help their patients stop suffering!

I am so sorry to ear about what has happened to her. I myself am a mom of two and I have been on 20mg of Lexapro for almost 5 years. For me, it has been very helpful and kept me very balanced. The only thing negative about it is that I don't have the same sex drive for my poor hubbi that I used to have. Maybe she needs to eliminate the Ativan and even lessen the Lexapro dosage to 10mg per day instead of 20mgs. It sounds to me like her body is very sensitive to these drugs. I wouldn't stop cold turkey though. Hope this helps!

I was on 40 mg of lexapro and 300 mg of wellbutrin daily. I recently moved from Florida to Minnesota. I lost control of the truck and wrecked losing much of my stuff including my meds. It's been 5 weeks and I am in hell. I'm to the point where I don't ever want to take these meds again and terrified I can't beat them. If you are thinking about going on psyche meds think long and hard first. Coming off this stuff has made me much crazier than I ever was before going on them.

the salt and vinegar craving is probably a side efect of dehydration from sweating. dont eat anymore salt. hydrate up and it will help you feel better too. had the same problem when withdrawing from ativan due to the same insurance problems.

You are SO right about this wicked Lexapro. I tried to taper from 20mg over a 9 month period and the lower the dosage, the crazier I became. I was only off for 33 days because all the withdrawal effects were too overpowering; overwhelming anxiety - to the point of needing to relieve the tension sexually, yet not being able to have a climax to do it! - I believe they call this phenomenon "pgad". I know it's a bit tmi but people need to understand this horrible medication. I had to go back on the Lex again, even over and above my starting dose to 30mg in order to gain stability.
I since been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and now take a whole cocktail of psych meds....including the Lexapro.....can't get off it either. I have never been the same emotionally/psychologically since taking this drug.

I'm sure that it will do the job. Next time, though, if you don't have the money to go to the doctor to get a prescription for it, buy it online at one of those canadian online drugstore. It's not free, of course, but is a lot cheaper than going to the doctor and then to a regular drugstore to buy it. I can recommend you -- Qr-url.tk/Lexapro -- , since that's the one I use. They have quality meds at good prices, and they ship overnight. You can search for others if you'd like, there are tons of them. Just wanted to save you some time telling you the one I use. Good luck.

Does anyone know how to stop the dizziness from Lexapro withdrawal? Or ease it? Or how long it'll last? It's the only withdrawal symptom that is impossible to tolerate.
