My mom has been given lidocane patches while in hospital but she is still complaining about the pain, as if it is not working. Could it be possible that the patches won’t help, and how exactly are they used? Thx!

Hi! I am a nurse and sometimes we use lidocane patches in the hospital to treat pain. The patches are sometimes even used in combo with other drugs. Once I used patches on an elderly lady for her back pain and it happened that the patches didn’t help. The lidocaine patch relieves pain and discomfort by blocking signals sent to nerve endings in the skin. Patches are applied directly to healthy, non-broken skin close to the source of pain or discomfort. They should not be worn longer than 12 hours in a 24-hour period.

I need to know will lidocaine patches cause a positive drug test? Can I prevent that?
