Hi! I'm 26 and had a cervical fusion 4 years ago c5-c6-c7 and multiple fractures in the thoracic spine. I thought the pain would be gone by now but it's debilitating and at my age, very very discouraging. Meds knock me out too so I try to avoid them. Along with all of these wonderful people I would also love to learn some tips on pain management for nerve pain, spasm, and stiffness of the neck and spine.

I am in pretty much the same situation as you guys. I have had 3 separate neck surgeries the last being anterior and posterior fusion. I am also in loads of pain but have recently been put on a new medication called belbuca 450 mcg 2x a day it's not a cure for the pain but it has allowed me to function somewhat day to day. Maybe something you can try to get your dr to look at.

Wow exactly, I have had three surgeries in 16 years of this 4 level cervical fusion. Nothing works except acupuncture and massage. Nor o works but side effects are not fun. So I do not want to lay down, but it is the only thing that helps. No more surgical procedures. Thank God I have a strong faith in God

Hi I was wondering if you had the surgery ? I had it 2 1/2 years ago and I'm grateful for the relief I got. I'm in way better shape, neck wise now than I was before the surgery. I have just started to have some slight issues, I have developed a lot of arthritis at the top of the fusion and so now will start trying conservatively to help with the pain it is causing, but I'm still in way better shape than I was ! I also have bilateral elbow epicondylitis, so I'm dealing with pain a lot but I just deal with it.

I had ac/pc cervical fusion of C3-4-5-6 in July of this year. Like you I am in pain all the time. I can only bend my head forward and backward with C1-2. I cannot go about my homemaking without terrible pain despite using proper body mechanics. Wanting to have a close to normal holiday home I bought a "Futoro" soft cervical brace to help me avoid bending my head forward past the C-1-2 ROM. It has helped. I don't like taking meds but I have had a little relief from the muscle relaxant methodically 750mg tid. Can't afford a massage therapist which I know would be helpful. hope this info is helpful.

My name is Chris. I have virtually the exact same issues as you. It's nice to know I'm not alone. I am 60 years old and had anterior and posterior fusions. It was following the posterior surgery that my pain started.
My description isn't necessary. I'm exactly like you. Constant pain but for 5.5 years. I have been to every doctor that would see and ended up at Pain Management. This is not the answer for me. I'm still searching for the cause of this effect you and I experience

I had cervical fusion C2 through c7 and titanium Cafe with 12 screws. I was out of work for Three months. Before surgery the pain was headaches and tingling in my right arm down to my fingertips. Post surg over 4months I have contingency in left shoulder. I could barely lift my arm off the bed when I was leaving the hospital. It's improved some not alot. I'm. Left handed and it aches so bad. I also have stomach pertrusion that I had but it was small now I look pregnant. My neck feels like a brick all the time. I have balls of muscles. On my neck. I go to pt twice a week. I have massages and hear and some exercises. Not much provement. My last appt was this week and my xray has. Always looked good they say. I asked them if heaviness and aches and all this was normal. Yes it is. Nobody told me what to expect. Grr. So now my arm. I asked about it. Imstamatocally he said " that arm is disabled. You can file disibility and I'll do whatever I can. You will be denied three times and the fourth time they will. Investigate. More and see if you been out of that job for a year. I. Said okay. My job is an Instructional assistent in a school. And it was. Bus driver too. The bus driver part is the part he said no no to. So it would be a partial disable. So that where I am. But the pains and all that I been using home. Stuff. I just want to know I'd my neck muscles will ever stop aching. Dang. I understand all the pain problems and I really have an issue with why my stomach bloated out and its still. There.

I’ve had 2 surgeries spread 14 years apart. First was successful and thankfully gave me 14 years. Pain returned and had a second surgery in 2014. Some much pain. I tried nerve burns which only increased my pain level. I’m on norco 10-325 three times daily just to be able to somewhat function. Norcos are helping less and less. Just trying to hang in there. I believe I will on pain management for the rest of my life.

I am so worried. I had my ACDF C4-7 in 2014 after 5 years of throbbing neck and arm pain from nerve compression I was told. I have been at a pain management doctor for about 4 years. Today I went back to the surgeon and the he told me the X-ray showed the lower portion of the fusion didn't heal. I had surgery in Oct of 2014. Now he's ordered a CT scan and told me we would talk after the results come in about a second possible surgery from behind my head. I was and am still devastated. I don't want another surgery. I'm still in pain from the first surgery. I'm on percocet, Soma, and gabapentin, xanax and naprosyn and it barely touches the pain.

Thank you...someone who knows. Four fractures,c4-c7, fusion on c5-c6: still bad bone spurs on 4 and 7, not bad enough for operation, Dr. says they continue to grow, in 3-5 yrs. they go back in.
Anyway, my PM doc has been threatened by the government with 30 years in prison for prescribing my pain meds,10 mg.hydrocodone. Each month I have been cut down, 120 to 90 to 60,30, to where finally next month I am down to 20. Just one problem, my meds have decreased my pain has not.
I have tried every shot possible;steriod, nerve block, botax, all. Even tried nerve burn,Doctor said I am that one in a million, highest electric ever, lead wires and needles were MELTING!!! Nothing like hearing your doc curse while you have probes smoldering inside your neck, so that is now no longer an option.
So what do I do now??? Oh,also, have had kidney failure before(bite by cave spider and antibiotics shut them down)so got to watch what NSAIDS I take.
So,anyone have ANY OTHER OPTIONS?!?
Thank you.James

Im searching this subject as im a singlemom of twin teens and alone. I have bi lateral nerve compression at c6 but really c7 to c5 are all bad so my doctor told me today im not a good candidate for the fusion surgery as i smoke cigarettes. I realize im 54 yrs old and have had a tremendous amount of surgery for what was thought to be tumors but ended up benign. I realize i need to drop my less than 7 cigs a day but for a surgery thats has such a poor success rate im not so sure. I when the pain is so bad can only lay down in bed only one way. Cant carry anything of weight more than 5lbs. But i listening to you and others and feel i should just try to do physio. You see i had a fall some 30 yrs ago fractured l5 l4 facet joints and received a procedure called ryzoliesess they burnt the nerves and i never felt that pain again. I needed full rehab 5 days a week 5 hours a day of exercise. But im thinking i will stay like this and try my best to accomdate my body,,,,i have other health issues, please just remeber that you taking aleve more than you should will catch up on you one day. Once your organs go theirs not much that they can do...please take care Cindy Jones
