I've had the implanon for 10 months and have gained 50 lbs!!!! Went from 185 to 235 and have been doing cardio 4 days a week and meal prepping/low carb = STILL NO WEIGHT LOSS. I love everything about the Implanin except for this! No periods, no mood swings, no pregnancy... but I cannot stand all this weight gain. I've considered getting the gastric sleeve to lose weight but I'm sure I won't be able to keep it off as long as I have the implanon.

This makes me feel a little better. I just got it today and was told it's amazing. The doctor said I shouldn't worry about gaining weight that it's is very uncommon. Now I'm worried.

Did you get it taken out ? And if so, did you gain your weight back ? I was also a size 5, and since getting on the implanon I have reduced to a size 0. :(( I am 5'7" and I look sick. I've been thinking about taking it out. But, the depo shot made my teeth fall out (not a joke) and I dont trust the pill...

The exact same is happening to me. I have lost almost 50 lbs in the last 4 months of being on nexplanon. I'm tall and slender already, I couldn't afford to lose that weight. I have tried drinking ensure, drinking those nasty weight gainer shakes from gnc, and even tried upping my caloric intake. By a lot. No clue what to do, but if something doesn't change soon I'll have to get it taken out for sure.

I am on my second implant. So I have had it for almost 6 years and in the past year I have gained so much weight. My eating hasn't changed, I have been doing weight lose supplements (protein shakes ect..) I drink nothing but water. I'm super active and I can loose any weight to save my life. I'm hungry all the time. After doing research I think I'm calling my Dr. to get this out.. Only down side is I'm wanted to get pregnant in March...

Hi Ladies,

Thanks for the interesting read i've been looking for implanon side effect results and til now have come up empty since majority of people just go on google to diss a contraceptive they don't use based on their views without experience.

My experience:

I've had my implanon since about May 2016 and have gained about 10kgs since then which put me at 87kg.

My thoughts:

I don't really think it was the implanon in my situation i believed i was a "greedy b****" too as one of the ladies said previously in this post :D but i spoke to my doctor about my weight gain and my constant need to eat to feel full all the time because after like 2hrs i was hungry again.

Turns out after some blood tests due to hereditary reasons i have insulin resistance which is the starting point of your body heading towards diabetes. This explained why i was hungry all the time, my constant "tiny bladder" as i called it, and my weight gain since my body was turning anything with high sugar into fat and not breaking it down.

Insulin resistance can also be from an unhealthy or even just high sugar and high fat diets. If you are gaining the most weight on your stomach, need to pee frequently or have an insatiable hunger than has you consuming a lot so your stomach doesn't growl and hurt then please i urge you to consider the blood test to check for insulin resistance (the results will show your insulin is high because it's working overtime and not breaking things down if the results are positive, diabetes follows when your body ends up failing to be able to produce the insulin you need anymore in later stages). Again, it can be hereditary and you can be predispositioned to have it later in life it's not just about being unhealthy!

Please consider the blood test it's just a fasting one they want you to not have eaten for about 8+hrs i think.

Side note: This is just a thought, a little like a musing so no fact involved, to those who are losing weight and all medical tests have come back fine, have you considered that your cardio had increased dramatically due to increased amounts of sex if you are using the implanon for contraceptive purposes? Cardio does a lot and there is nothing wrong with having a strong sexual appetite but if you are already exercising a lot this would probably go further than just fitness and put your body more towards the same efforts as a person who would originally be aiming for weight loss right? I know it sounds silly to some extent but sometimes a simple explanation is the right one and if even one person out there finds this is the cause for their weight loss they could solve their problem. :) And that sounds good enough to me to blurt out a weird thought like this. For example halving your fitness and keeping your sexual appetites would lower your calories burnt and keep you and your spouse intimate as often as you wanted without extra weight loss. :)

My weight loss:

I've been on Duromine from my doctor for weight loss since it will curb the insulin resistance side effects of my excessive appetite and help me to lose some weight to reduce my risk of diabetes, if you have gained a lot of weight and cant shed it as hard as you try then ask your doctor if Duromine might help you it isnt just for my condition it's to help with weight loss to prevent later obesity problems in life and to make your brain think you are full longer so you eat less frequently without the crazy belly pain of an empty stomach.

After 3 weeks i've lost 3 kilos (about 6.6 pounds) with a low carb low sugar diet (not fun but worth it) and i try to use my cycle bike 40mins a day whilst watching an episode of any show on tv.

17 more kgs to go until i reach my goal.

I really hope that any of my info/experience can help and i wish you all the best on your contraception journeys, I love implanon since it reduces my period pain and sometimes i don't have my periods, i don't even have sex anymore but i don't intend to quit implanon for a long long time. :D

My doctor definitely didn't think it was the rod that made me gain weight and he was right in the end!

Best of luck to you all.

Amanda. (PS: autocorrect ruined my username before i could stop it submitting hahaha, please ignore the weird username).
