Hi! First, I had chest x-ray, and doctor told me that I have lung nodule. Then I had CT. After CT doctor suggested me lung nodule surgery. Do they remove part of, or entire lung?

Hi! You should know that most of us have enough lung tissue that if we had an operation to remove one or a portion of one lung, we could still breathe. How much lung that can be removed can be a complicated question? You probably will have a number of tests which include some of the following: pulmonary function studies, ventilation perfusion scan, and a six-minute walk test. With these tests, your surgeon may be able to calculate how much lung tissue you can afford to do without, if necessary. Surgeon will explain which part of lung he will remove.

Hello there,

Since the poster above me has explained most of the things I would just like to add that after additional testing your doctor will decide if you are suitable candidate for the surgery. Of course you have enough tissue so even if the most of it get removed you will be able to breathe. Of course there will be some restrictions in the beginning, and I am sure that you will get all the necessary details from your doctor but this is not such a big of a deal.

Anyhow, I hope that these answers have helped you and please keep us informed about further events in your case. Good luck and I hope that everything will turn out just fine.

I had a ct scan done and they found a nodule. My doctor told me yesterday that a nodule cannot be seen in a normal chest x ray. I wonder if they are larger if they can actually be seen.
