Ever since I've been back in a public school I've had extreme difficulties with speech, and I think the years I spent home schooled may have had something to do with it. This extended period of not speaking took place from ages 12-15, and I haven't been able to use my voice properly since. I will be 17 in a few months, and I don't think a defective voice is going to help me very much in my search for employment. I can't seem to make any sound come out of my mouth, and if it does it's too soft and deep to understand. It's improved slightly over the past few months, but it's still a major issue.

Problems:

- No sound or very little sound is produced

- Abnormally deep voice (or puberty hit me like a truck)

- The problem gets worse if I'm exercising, walking, or doing anything else that is slightly physically demanding

- Throat discomfort (dry, mucus, or dry with mucus)

- Very unpredictable in the sense I don't know when it's going to be less of an issue, or when it's going to be more of an issue. (sudden changes, never ceasing)

Things about me:

- I will be 17 in two months

- I am a very unhealthy weight for my height (108-114 lbs, 6 ft tall)

- I have no friends, so my voice is used even less

- As a result of the problem, I fit the criteria for "selective mutism" (My body reacts as if I've been threatened when someone asks me a question, and I get the "fight or flight" response)

- I have Asperger's (It's effects tend to be very broad, so that might be related somehow. I also have to deal with people who believe the term "autism" is synonymous with mentally handicapped, despite the fact that I'm a top tier student.)

Any help is appreciated, and I apologize about the unorganized babbling.
