I was prescribed Meridia by my doctor because I have over 60 lbs to lose. I was also advised to pay attention to my nutrition and not to do a lot of exercising because I am way too overweight. He said that I should take-up walking or weight-lifting with proper exercising and that when I lose some weight, I may start exercising. I have never used a prescribed weight loss drug and was wondering what it was.

Meridia is a drug that boosts the levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that gives a feeling of happiness and joy and when activated, it reduces appetite. There were similar drugs before but they were withdrawn from the market because they were systemic and made neurotransmitters go into the blood stream, which could heart related side effects. Meridia is thought to be safer because it elevated serotonin and keeps it within the brain and effects brain only. I reckon it is a good drug but you should certainly pay attention to what you eat and you should monitor your health just in case.
