CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT THIS DRUG DOES TO ONES SELF?

Loading...

This is a drug that is available only by prescription and used to treat depression. It belongs to a group of drugs called SSRI’s. It is thought that depression is caused by the imbalance among the amounts of the different neurotransmitters that are released in the brain. These chemicals are transmitted from one nerve to another but sometimes it happens that instead of being taken by another nerve, the nerve who released it, takes the chemical again. Paroxetine works by stopping this nerve “releaser” to reuptake the chemical, so that they can be taken up by other nerves – which is the way things should work. In case of Paroxetine, it is a chemical serotonin that is being prevented from being reuptaken by the releaser.

Like most of these drugs that influence the neurotransmitters in the brain, they cause serious side effects as well as withdrawal reactions. All of these drugs should be tapered but even then, they cause the withdrawal symptoms. I don’t think they should be used without a doctors supervision.

Have you been prescribed this drug or do you know somenody who uses it?
