My general parctioner theorized that I have PCOS. Before I went to the OB/GYN to confirm this concern, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex twice.
The biggest concern for me with PCOS was the fertility, so if I got pregnant it would have been good news.
I went to the OB/GYN and took a pregnancy test. It came out negative. She put me on the NuvaRing to help straighten out my hormones.
I put in the ring and the following day I had the worst headaches and stomach aches ever. This went on for 2 weeks. So I went to see my general practioner- he gave me some pain killers which did nothing for my headaches and had me take a pregnancy test- it came out negative. I had had unprotected sex with my boyfriend again. The ring is suppossed to do it's job after 7 days, and it had already been in 8 when we had sex, so I wasn't expecting to be pregnant- just covering my bases.
It came time to remove the ring. I did. 3 days later, no period. My doctor had said to put a new one in after 3 days wether I got my period or not so I did.
The next day I started to spot. I was spotting for a week and still getting headaches and stomache aches. I removed the ring to see if 1) it stopped the pain and 2) if I got my period.
The pain in my head stopped a few days later. I also got my period. It was old blood, and a LOT of it. It wouldn't stop. It went on for 7/8 days (mine usually lasts 5 tops). I also was getting large chunks. I've read and talked and I am told that chunks are normal if you're late- I was only a week late.
I also kept having what can only be described as contractions. I'd double-over in pain, and had huffy breathing. The blood turned bright red somewhere around day 4.
It was the WORST period of my life.
So, what I want to know is, did I have the worst period ever, or a miscarriage?
Another factoid to go with that question-
The timing of the unprotected sex and implantation (if it happened) could have had it go like this- was pregnant and tested negative because no implantation, then was no longer pregnant by the time I took the second test. And even possibly pregnant if the ring didn't work, and it was before implantation...
This is all very iffy. I have PCOS, I don't ovulate as often as a "normal" woman, but there is the slight chance.
Another question is- Has anybody else had issues involving the ring? Headaches or stomache aches? After all that I'm not on ANY birth control.
Also, I would like to add that the only reason I didn't go to the doctor during all of that is that I lost my job and my medical ran out in the middle of it all. By the time I decided I should see somebody, I had no coverage. I am currently looking for a clinic that can see me and so far I've been offered nothing but pregnancy tests and free condoms.

I absolutely miscarried while on the nuva ring. I had it for a couple of cycles everything was normal. I took it out after the 3 weeks and didn't start my period. I was nauseous, bloated, boobs were sore and huge - I just knew I was pregnant. I took a test and sure enough it was positive. About a week later I began to bleed heavily. I called the doctor and she told me to use pads to keep track of how much I was bleeding. My normal period I would go through like 2-3 tampons a day... I was soaking through heavy pads about every 2 hours with this. After 3 days my bleeding turned to chunks of greyish matter and old blood. I scheduled an appointment and the doctor agreed with me that this was definitely a miscarriage although she would not admit that the Nuva Ring had caused it... I believe it did. I stopped all birth control and did not have a period for 7 months. I gained weight, was extremely hormonal and my boobs even produced colostrum. They told me it was a chemical pregnancy. Needless to say, I do not recommend the Nuva Ring to anyone. Stay away from it.
